MH3 - Multiplayer Issues

Hi,

So here's my problem:

I am trying to play Monster Hunter 3 Tri with my friend over a LAN connection, we have 2 computers connected to the same router and we are running the same Dolphin Client ( I pre-configured it and sent him a copy). So, onto the problem part. We can connect fine and load up the game through netplay, but the issue comes down to controls not working as intended.

We are both using Xbox 360 controllers set as classic controllers under the Wiimote emulation and they both work perfectly well when playing the game. But only for player one. Who ever has player two configured is unable to control.

99% of the post I have read tell me to configure port 1 & 2 (Config > gamecube > Port # > Standard) and this has been done for both clients but still no changes.

I have tried almost every combination I can think of, but it doesn't help.

So I finally turn to you lovely people after many hours of toil, set me straight!

Thanks for any and all help, I will try to monitor this thread closely for quick replys

The Wiimote support for NetPlay is still experimental and isn't guaranteed to work... BTW, GameCube Controllers works flawlessly, but as far as I remember, MH3 doesn't support GC controllers =/

It uses Nintendo Wifi, this game does not have same console multiplayer. Netplay is a part of dolphin used to make games that have local multiplayer play online. This game only works via wifi, and the only way I've heard of doing it now that the servers are shut down would be to use a private server of some sort. All the functionality is in Dolphin, you can blame capcom for being cheapasses and shutting down the multiplayer as soon as the identical Wii U release was done.

There's your issue – the game's not using GameCube controllers, it's using Wii Remotes. Just make sure Wii Remotes 1 and 2 are set up on both computers as an Emulated Wiimote with a Classic Controller. (You're both using remote 1's settings regardless of which netplay player you are, so don't map any buttons on the second.)

Now, if the game works in netplay or not, I dunno. Does it even have a split-screen two-player mode? If not, you're screwed.

Would the split screen Colosseum fight mode not count under same console multiplayer?

Regardless, it seems clear that in general, MH3 tri is not working for netplay. Thank you everyone for your ideas/thoughts/etc! Nice to have this issue cleared up!

Many Thanks,
Blythe

Oh, splitscreen colosseum WOULD indeed work. I honestly didn't play the game enough to know it had splitscreen.

If that is not working that simply means you're doing something wrong. Wiimote netplay is difficult to setup even when you know what you're doing right now, and there are a lot of ways to mess it up.

First thing to note, is that you can only use EMULATED wiimotes, if you use real wiimotes, you simply won't send input.
