================================================
Background Nonsense:
I have been playing Harvest Moon: Animal Parade (US version) on my computer in hopes of being able to use cheat engine with it to alter the games memory and alter gameplay. I am forced to do this due to my inability to use Gecko on my wii and since gecko codes are not supported in dolphin yet (it says accepted on the issue tracker) I have to edit it myself. It's not something I'm new to but I'm having unusual problems. First (because it seems like even if I ask how to make a ham sandwich on a support forum they ask for my specs) here they are:
Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Core i7 920 O.C. 3.2Ghz
Dolphin x64 JITIL svn 4883
Radeon 5870
===============================================
So here's what I do:
First I wanted to edit the number of an item which is pretty simple in most games. The values for such things tend to be stored in byte value. I searched in byte got addresses changed them (They had a weird behavior) and the item number changed in game to 255 worth of the item (the max in a byte address). Then i saved and reloaded to see if it worked and the screen had gone completely loopy and all data reverted to its default values if I had made a new file.
===============================================
My Question:
Can Cheatengine successfully alter memory in Dolphin? I have attempted many different methods of altering values (Changing items, item numbers, stamina, so on and so forth..) in various types of values (byte, 2byte, 4byte, ect.) but all I get is either a desired change that makes the game flip out or an insta crash.
===============================================
The Debugging Mode:
I did some reading and looked into the debugging feature in Dolphin and decided to see if it could be used to search the memory (I read that it could in a forum post I can find it again if necessary).
However, the debugging mode won't run the game it just launches the game with a black window and speed at 243% and no changes took place over a 15 minute period at the end of which I reverted back to normal emulation. Why can't the debugging mode play my game? What makes it any different than the normal mode? Is there anything I can do to make it work?
Problem persists for me in the following revisions:
x64_4878 by Unknownforce
x64_4883 compiled by mamario
x64_4878 by Maetel
x64_4771 official snapshot
x64_4886 compiled by mamario
===============================================
Thanks and sorry for my very wordy explanation I have a tendency to ramble.
EDIT:
Managed to make successful edits with cheatengine still having issues with debug mode
