Amazon was advertising Mayflash Gamecube adapters were under $20, so I decided to grab one explicitly for playing Jungle Beat in Dolphin, since I still have my bongos. Problem is: Dolphin is fighting back and I can't figure out why.
So I did some research. I'm well aware you're supposed to turn the adapter to Wii U mode and then tell Dolphin you've connected the "Gamecube Adapter for Wii U." In the config, I then enable a "Simulate DK Bongos." And then it will apparently just work, right?
Dolphin tells me one of two errors: A regular "No adapter detected" or, sometimes, "Operation not supported or unimplemented on this platform."
I can flip it over to PC mode and I can bind Dolphin inputs to the Bongos like it was a normal USB controller. But I'm not sure how to bind anything like that, or if it's going to work correctly, because I'm just binding bongo inputs to analog stick movements. (And what do I bind for clap, in that instance?)
Near as I can tell the adapter is working fine. Using a piece of software called USBlog, I can get a log of every USB device as its getting connected or disconnected from my PC. Flipping the Mayflash adapter to PC mode, I can see a "composite device" and four input devices appear in USBlog, all registered to a DragonRise Inc.
If I flip the adapter to Wii U mode, it registers a USB device to "Nintendo Co., Ltd"
So my system is seeing the device in both modes, even if it does not necessarily register Wii U mode as a controller. But for whatever reason, Dolphin isn't recognizing it.
Anyone have any advice?
