Well i'm stick with Phenom II for a few years, because it's hard to find a good motherboard for Intel with 3 PCI, 2x PCIe x1 and 1x PCIe x16. Most of motherboards are either mATX or 2xPCIe x16 with 1xPCI and 1xPCIe slots blocked by video card.

im trying to show how under rated the fx 8150 is

Well if that is the computer with the fx 8150(I'm not saying you're lying but in the video it doesn't show you going to control panel or any program that shows what hardware is installed and being used. You don't have to post a video for proof though, I will take your word on this one.) then you are right. The cpu is very underated. Although I still don't think it's worth $200. My processor is a dual core at 2.8ghz(e7400).I think they costed $130- $160 at launch(not sure) and now I am sure you could get one for much cheaper. So is the 8150 underated; yes, you proved your point. But, there are many better and muchcheaper options if you're buying a processor for emulation. And by the way, what gpu do you use?

FAIL!
He's using HLE audio. I call troll! Why would you use HLE audio? Super Mario Galaxy via LLE audio is IMPOSSIBLE (or near impossible...) to run on a Phenom 2 x4, much less a Plasticdozer. God, I get drops to 40fps on my I5. (Consistently drops to 30 on top of that.) 60 fps is basically nonexistent on the i5 2300, a processor OPTIMIZED for single and dual-threading, as opposed to Chaindozer's Quad-or-more threaded optimization. Go edit Blu-Rays or play Battlefield 3 if you want to argue performance. This is a FACT: Bulldozer's architecture is NOT designed with single or dual threading in mind, rather, it is desinged with multi-core threading in mind. (Few programs use more than 3 threads/cores right now--- Even Dolphin--- and even then only LLE, which you AREN'T using.) TL;DR- Bulldozer has strengths. EMULATION ISN'T ONE OF THEM. Sorry, rant over. 06-06-2012, 09:13 AM
Quote:AMD FX performs much better in linux than in windows because linux was always better in multithreading and stuff but it's still worse than Phenom II with same frequency in Dolphin. Quote:Proof? Has this been tested or something? I'd just like to know as a Linux user. Quote:This is the case, but only because the Linux devs tossed out the SHIT patch that amd had provided and came up with their own Can you show this to me squall? All of the linux benchmarks I saw for bulldozer showed poor performance compared to sandy bridge that were about on par with windows benchmarks. Quote:Go edit Blu-Rays or play Battlefield 3 if you want to argue performance. Bulldozer is good for video encoding but bad for video game performance due to poor floating point throughput.

I actually know about this, but Battlefield 3 DOES support 6 cores, and I felt like throwing him a bone while tearing him a new one. 06-06-2012, 09:32 AM

I don't remember the links to the post bd drop scheduler patches for linux that got rejected :\ i was never implying that bulldozer is faster than intel on linux btw. 06-06-2012, 09:37 AM

But you were confirming this:
Quote:AMD FX performs much better in linux than in windows because linux was always better in multithreading and stuff but it's still worse than Phenom II with same frequency in Dolphin. And considering the i5 2500K is only slightly faster than the FX 8150 in highly multithreaded tests in windows if performance in linux was significantly better than performance in windows for bulldozer than bulldozer would outperform sandy bridge in linux. Or am I missing something here?

If you do 1 thread per module they should be about the same excluding AVX-256 (2 FMAC units for BD vs 1 FADD and 1 FMUL for SNB/IB). 06-07-2012, 05:15 AM

Quote:no they shouldn't, and wtf does a graphics card have to do with float operations in an application Sorry but that was bothering me. I had to read that sentence 2 or 3 times to figure out what you were trying to say. I think what lamedude means is that if you didn't have a dedicated GPU to run shaders you would need to write a software renderer which would need to use a lot of floating point vectors. What he probably doesn't realize is that games still use a lot of floating point arithmetic outside of graphics.
