Hello friends, i want to get the best image possible at x1 native using my pc crt monitor, ive tried 640x480 60hz and 640x528 60hz GTF timings, cant really tell the difference, ive read somewhere that the resolution the gamecube outputs varies depending on the game so there is no 1 best resolution i should set my monitor to, does anyone know how this stuff works?, the idea is to get the pixels to line up correctly with the monitors resolution at x1 native, the monitor is an LG f900p. In Resident evil 4 640x528 is definitly sharper, the pixels seems to line up better, its more noticeable in text, menus and interface.

On hardware, an NTSC GameCube outputs a roughly 640x480 image. (it's technically 640x528 but you'll only see 480ish lines. analog is like that.) That roughly is very important here, as the exact resolution always varies game to game. Analog fun. However on console this is fine as an analog television doesn't really care, they only care about lines after all, and the Gamecube (and thus the game) is actively controlling the analog CRT.
If you are using Dolphin with a CRT computer monitor, Dolphin will not be driving the CRT, your computer will, so no matter how much you dial it in it will always be a little off and varying degrees of off game to game. We cannot really do anything about this, because as PC software, we do not have the ability to drive the display like the console does. My advice to you on a computer monitor is to set it to 640x480 and play around with Crop and scaling settings. Just be aware that a monitor works different from a television, and that accurate emulation is to use crop in this case and lose some render pixels on the edges. The GameCube and Wii were built for analog TVs, so they expect overscan to always be in place - hence them not caring about precise resolutions. Okay makes sense, i tried the crop feature at 640x480, definitely looks a lot better now! thank you!, about the "scaling settings" that you mentioned, you mean internal resolution?. Im using OpenGL with Force 4:3 and crop enabled
