Well the fps goes down so it isn't just network lag. Since I bought my new mobo I managed to get slightly better performance out of TF2 but fps still drops way down when there is stuff happening on screen. The lowest fps drops is in the high twenties to low thirties. It makes it more difficult to play not only due to network lag but fps lag as well, so much rubber-banding and when playing as a sniper the scope border constantly flickers and rubber bands when scoping in/out.

Well that's just speculative. The games has become more un-optimized and not solely because of hats and cosmetics wouldn't have caused a drastic drop in performance on their own. When the game first came out a stock Pentium 4 or AMD64 with now outdated graphics hardware could run this game with acceptable performance. Now some modern top of the line gaming rigs suffer from poor performance yet run any other game fine without issues, I can run other games fine that have a lot more action on the scree as well as better graphics, effects and physics.
Valve really needs to take initiative to optimize this game to stay true to the original minimum and recommended specifications listed when TF2 was originally released. It's absurd there would be such a drastic increase in the requirements to run this game acceptably, now overclocked Core2Duo's and first gen i7's are experiencing trouble running this game. There are reports of poor performance with recent hardware for some so it's not much to do with requirements going up. As I said numerous times TF2 only uses under 50% cpu and ny cou is overclocked to 3.66 Ghz and my i7 overclocked to 4.2 Ghz where TF2 used even less cpu. 04-09-2014, 03:35 AM
Well most users (including myself) have never had any issues with performance in this game. So it's likely not a simply issue of the game being unoptimized. The game engine is very complex. As more features are added it grows even more complex. This inevitably increases requirements and the chances that something will go wrong for some users since there is so much hardware/software variation out there for end user configurations to test on. Expecting more and more features to be added (including complex ones that involve improved physics/graphics) without any increase in requirements is an unreasonable demand in my opinion. In many cases it may even be impossible. What you're encountering is likely some kind of bug that effects performance. Typically these issues go so long without being fixed because the developments can't reproduce them no matter what they do. Even when using the exact same hardware. I have run this game well on 3 different generations of machines now. Whatever is going on over there is specific to your configuration and your rig. Yet whatever it is clearly only effects tf2 and therefore isn't an issue with slow hardware in general. Have you checked that your cpu/gpu aren't throttling when running tf2 (I think I may have asked you this already but can't remember)?
kinkinkijkin Wrote:TF2 is weird, and, on better hardware, performs worse the lower you set the graphics. I've never experienced this on any of my rigs, my friends rigs, or heard of it in any of the communities I frequent which are active in TF2. I have only ever seen the exact opposite behavior. Which would make a lot more sense. If you're somehow experiencing a speedup from raising your settings that points to throttling hardware as the cause since the games requirements do in fact increase as you raise the settings.

There is something going on. It may not affect everyone but it effects some players even those with top of the line hardware. My cpu nor gpu is throttling down, speedstep and thermal throttling are disabled in the bios as are other options recommended to be disabled when overclocking. There is nothing else I can pin this on besides drivers, my internet and perhaps my hard drives. Even with my overclocked i7 950 @ 4.2 Ghz and Fios internet I was experiencing abnormal drops. However back then the framerate drops didn't have as much of an impact due to using more powerful hardware, previously framerate drops down to 60 fps compared to drops to upper twenties to low thirties I am currently experiencing. I can't blame the cpu due to TF2 consuming less than 50% and the fact I have decent performance playing some games with Dolphin. I know apples to oranges with the emulator vs pc game comparison but running a pc game is less intensive or should be less intensive on the cpu than an emulator. My gpu is well above recommended specifications and can run graphically superior games without an issue. I was experiencing framerate drops with superior hardware and internet than I have now, the only difference is a less powerful cpu, minus one gpu and 2 GB of ram. So the only blame I can pin on my hardware is the hdd which I haven't bothered to mention because I thought the hdd wouldn't matter and maybe my internet connection. I am having a hard time pinning to poor performance on my cpu and my gpu, my gpu which should have no problem running this game. Could be a driver issue with Nvidia's recent drivers affecting performance with some hardware and certain games.
Anyways TF2 seems to be running slightly better since buying a new board but still doesn't run as good as it should. It's a genuine issues and is affecting several players, it's real enough there is entire threads on Spuf complaining about performance issues. 04-09-2014, 04:52 AM
Tf2 runs at a maximum of 500FPS on max settings on my pc. 2GB RAM looks like it's the issue here though, things like that can happen with to few ram.

I have 4 GB ram, I said I was down by 2 GB so instead of 6 GB I have 4 GB since the max the board can support is either 4 GB or 8 GB. Only two slots for ram so as I said the max amount likely is up to 8 GB but I only have 2x 2 GB sticks.

Is there any way to get 2.1 music and videos to output stereo audio out of all speakers? I have a Sound Blaster X-fi Titanium Fata1ity Pro and a Logitech 5.1 surround sound system hooked up to my sound card. 2.1 music and videos only play out of the front speakers or front speakers plus my subwoofer unless I enable matrixing. I don't want to enable matrixing because it messes audio up in some games and movies.

Turn on CMSS 3D or whatever they're calling upscaling these days.

That's enabled with stereo surround and upmix set to auto, changing settings has no effect. Stilll no audio out of the rear/side speakers from 2.1 sources unless I enable matrixing.
