So I formatted a partition on my drive and it contained the grub bootloader and I didn't know it. I formatted it to erase linux and get more memory. Now I can't even get my laptop to boot anything but my live usb of puppy. I've been googling for hours and I cannot figure out how to fix this without installing a new linux. Does anyone know how? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I feel dumb, didn't even think to google win 8 bootloader. I need to make a disc of it and restore. Thanks ED2.

You can just as well recreate the deleted partition and install grub manually inside it. Some distributions might even have some sort of rescue mode to do that automatically for you.

Ok heres the problems. I can't install grub via linux because windows 8 was hibernating before the error and never got out of hibernation. I tried my windows 8 disc(usb drive) and it said boot error, get a system recovery disc. So I really don't know how to fix this now.
You'll likely want to fix your Windows bootloader first then... win8 rescue mode should have the fixmbr command for this. And yeah, you'll need a system recovery disc for that, or at least a Windows setup dvd.

Linux had a different partition as active and I made a few mistakes with other software I had to repair but It's working good. |
