Dolphin has become much more demanding on the GPU in recent builds when using higher IRs (3x, 4x, even 2x for GPU intensive games). So whereas you might have been able to run something at 4x IR on 4.0.2 with AA added in, the same might not apply to the most recent builds depending on your hardware. Sounds like that might be the issue for bayofsharks given that he/she mentioned 4x IR gameplay.

Hey all, Just thought I'd share some experience with making Wind Waker play well on Dolphin 4.0.2 on an older machine. I primarily use Macs as a preference, but this probably still applies to other computers that are a few years old, and use OpenGL and Nvidia. I have a 2010 MacBook Pro that I'm always trying to push to its limits, and Dolphin is a great way to do that. In the old 3.5 version, I could get near perfect performance, albeit with the infamous OpenGL glitches particular to the terrible Nvidia drivers supplied by Apple that cause all the graphical glitches. I was very happy when 4.0.2 fixed the graphics, but the performance demands have been horrible, especially with Wind Waker.
So I've been playing around at fixing it, and I've finally gotten a playable state. Turns out Dolphin 4.0.2 is working great with Wind Waker most of the time already, but seizes up when rendering distant landscapes, particularly with cliff lines. The default settings in the .ini for Wind Waker disable FastDepthCalc, and by changing that in the .ini, I now get consistent performance in the 97% and higher range when rendering landscapes, and 100% otherwise. This may be helpful for people with older machines like mine. It reduces the detail on the cliff lines, but the performance gain is totally worth it. I'm back to 3.5 speed but with 4.0.2 graphical improvements. Thanks to the dev team for all the hard work, and I'm going to go play me some Wind Waker now, and maybe see what I can do to fix Twilight Princess later. 08-06-2014, 01:38 PM
Does anybody know how to disable the subtle DOF effect in the game? I have tried fiddling with some settings but it has been a no go so far. I am on the newer builds if it helps.

I am constantly getting fps drops while sailing. It almost feels like a loading stutter, but its not consistent. Is this normal or what settings I can use to fix this? Using build 4.0-2636

Hey, so I've encountered some sound-related issues. Everything was going fine until suddenly (and seemingly randomly) all my sound disappeared sans foot steps and other barely noticeable sound effects. It happened suddenly when pulling onto an island (sorry, don't know which). I've read about this issue before and have tried most of the common suggestions. I am using LLE, I have tried with and without the item hang fix, and about every combination.
In addition, my memory card became corrupt after this. I can still load the save state, but the sound remains broken. Any new file created on the new memory card works just fine. I do have another previous save state where the sound appears to work, however I had abandoned this due to a freezing glitch after beating the Forest Haven boss. I want to avoid completely starting over, so the way I see it I have a couple options. My question is are any of these possible, which would be easiest, and how can I accomplish them: 1. Fix the sound problem on the save state. Not sure how to accomplish this. 2. Fix the freeze glitch on the other save state. It is currently saved in a position where the camera is focused on the ground and I cannot move. Unsure of how I can move it along. In the past the only way for me to fix this was to restart the boss with the item hang fix activated. However, in this save state, the boss is already complete and the cut-scene had begun (this is where it is frozen). 3. Find, edit, or otherwise obtain a save state or save file in a relatively close game position. Anything right after the Forest Haven would be excellent. 4. Start a new game and use some sort of AR code or the like to either skip ahead or move more quickly through the content I have already beaten. Anything to get to my current spot quickly. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance. 08-20-2014, 06:57 AM
You broke saves by using savestates. Dualcore is what can cause the music crashes, not HLE or LLE; it's a rare occurrence. What you do is load the state. Unplug memory card. then select the memory card again, and attempt to save. You can also try selecting a different memory card, that will usually work.
Please be more careful with savestates in the future! 08-20-2014, 12:49 PM

The game gives me the message "The game could not be saved. The Memory Card in Slot A does not contain the save file you last used." Am I boned? Edit: After a couple tries, it worked! Thanks a lot for the advice, I really appreciate it. For the future, what should I do to prevent this from happening? Just lay off the save states? 08-20-2014, 01:23 PM
Never, ever save in-game, then load a savestate from before that in-game save. That is the problem.

Hey,
I've run into the Dragon Roost Heat Effect bug despite using the newest version of Dolphin from dolphin-emu.org (4.0-2662.) I also tried an older stable version (4.0.2) but I'm still seeing the heat effect. On the wiki it says it was fixed as of 4.0-593. I also tried adding the action replay code (003F6B2A 00000000 for the NTSC version) and restarted Dolphin but I'm still seeing the screen tearing Am I missing something? ps: I tried searching the forums but the only result for Dragon Roost Heat Effect was this thread but it didn't specify which page/reply :/ update: It looks like it's happening because I'm using the widescreen hack and forced 16:9 aspect ratio. Is there any fix for the heat effect with those settings? update 2: turns out I didn't have "enable cheats" on. With enable cheats, the widescreen hack, forced aspect ratio and the dragon roost heat effect AR code it all woks. I hope my blundering helps someone in the future (too bad the search function isn't amazing)
