Factor 5 is extremely competent and possibly evil. It seems if they want to do something on the GameCube, they were going to do it come hell or high water.

Could the cached interpreter approach be applied to LLE audio (or is it already the case there \ irrelevant )?
Of course, some day Factor 5 games will have proper HLE (I hope). 08-04-2015, 01:06 PM

The core guys from Factor 5, including the coding geniuses stayed together after and created TouchFactor, and have a mobile game out called Touch Fish. One of the best looking games on iOS. Definitely something different from Star Wars, but that doesn't mean a game can still look good. I asked once if Metal, when introduced by Apple would help with Touch Fish's graphics, but they said it was so well optimized, that Metal wouldn't really help that much at all. Also, as Julian said on the IGN Nintendo podcast, they'd still like to make a WiiU game

If you really need to. 5K? You do realize this is a Wii game, right? Just some minor mistakes in the article. The first mistake involves a missing "to", the second mistake involves "and" instead of "can" or "will" or some such.

Does the removal of HLE audio timing dependencies mean you can substitute existing streamed game audio (e.g. ADX) of one sampling rate with new audio of another sampling rate and have a reasonable expectation of success, or is it more likely that games designed for 32 kHz audio will either puke or lowpass new audio at 44.1 or 48 kHz, rendering the swap either pointless or game breaking? I'm guessing it's a game-specific question that requires testing to determine an answer, but in the event that the answer is generallly applicable, I'll ask, anyway.

I imagine a lot of games use the audio for timing purposes and a change in sample rate may throw the timing off for those things. Alternatively the game engine it self might be hardcoded to play at a specific sample rate.

While this article mentions the new Release Candidates, it doesn't really mention just how much newer they are than the most recent stable 4.x version. What I mean is it doesn't give any idea of what features didn't make it in to the release candidate, or how the latest developer build differs from it etc.
Also I just now (Probably again) noticed that these progress reports don't get their own forum topic and I think they should. It makes it annoying having to specify which one you're referring to whenever typing a comment about one, like my typo reports for example.

Unless there's a good reason to keep it all contained in one thread, I think it'd be good to have separate threads for each PR. |
