Yeah, i don't know how this turned into a debate about clock speed. It has always been a repeated thing among tech people that Intel currently has an advantage over AMD. That advantage is said to be smaller than before with the Phenom II line, but it's still supposed to be there.
If you somehow managed to overclock a Pentium D dual core processor to 4ghz, and had a similar Core i5 dual core clocked at the same frequency, the Core i5 will apparently perform FAR better. Even if you run on stock speeds with the i5, you should still get better performance than the Pentium D at its peak... If there's one thing i've learned from emulation forums, it's that architecture is extremely important to speed.
As long as i can play pretty much any game at full speed, i'd be happy to have the Thuban. The price is amazing. I was going to buy a Phenom II quad core last year for around that price and now a much better one is out for the same price. Can't beat that. Even IF the i7 has a bit of an advantage, it sounds like it's not an advantage that would persuade me to shell out almost $100 more, and even more possibly for the motherboard. I can use that money in better ways.
