I tried with various overclock settings and couldn't get it to run without noticeable lag, even at lower settings. I was able to get it to run okay at 150-175%, but some maps were still unplayable with the 60fps hack enabled.
I've tentatively put together this as a machine: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant CPU: Intel - Pentium G4560 3.5GHz Dual-Core Processor ($88.25 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI - B250I PRO Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard ($85.04 @ Amazon) Storage: Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($51.03 @ Amazon) Video Card: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1050 2GB Mini Video Card ($116.97 @ Amazon) Case: Thermaltake - Core V1 Snow Edition Mini ITX Tower Case ($57.03 @ Amazon) Power Supply: Corsair - CX (2017) 450W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($42.52 @ Amazon) Total: $440.84 Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available Generated by PCPartPicker 2017-07-10 16:44 EDT-0400 Are there any glaring problems with this build? Also, would the GTX 1060 perform noticeably better? It seems as if bitcoin miners have run up the prices on it, but it looks like there are occasionally decent deals for it on eBay. Also, the desktop I've been running Dolphin on right now is a Hackintosh running OS X. From what I understand, NVIDIA's OS X drivers are pretty good, but perhaps that could be affecting the performance?
Well, glaring issue: no RAM
Good news for you though, it's not your hardware that's casuing the issue. It's Hackintosh. I'm running a Hackintosh with an i5-6600 with a GTX 760 on OSX 10.11.6. Can't get the 60 FPS code to run MKWii at higher than 48 FPS/VPS no matter what IR its set to, or CPU over-/under-clock I give it. But when I switched over to my Windows 10 install, 60 FPS code worked like a charm. Before you go out and buy a whole new computer, try installing Windows and dual boot, then try the 60 FPS patch. 07-11-2017, 10:29 PM

Based on my own comparison of a 1050 ti (4 GB) and a 1060 (3 GB), I would recommend the 1050 ti for anything and everything up to 1080p, and up to 1440p for some titles. If you want 4K then the 1060 is a better choice. I can't comment on the 1050 (non-ti) as I haven't tried it. That aside, I'll echo what KHg8m3r said -- try running your existing rig with Windows 10 first. Even if you don't already have a Windows license, it's cheaper than building a whole new PC. One other consideration. The 1060 might have enough extra performance that it would allow MKWii to run with the 60fps code on the Hackintosh side without buying a Windows license. But be warned: to get the 1060 going, you'd have to upgrade to Sierra, and based on my recent experience trying to get the 1060 going under Sierra it's a PITA. I had the added complication of running a Kaby Lake CPU, so YMMV. Also, no guarantees that after all that work it will even resolve your performance issue. 07-15-2017, 07:13 AM
I tried out Windows 10 with my current machine with an i7 4770k and GTX 760 and was able to run Mario Kart Wii at 60fps in multiplayer with only the occasionally split second drop to 50fps, which is barely even noticeable. I still plan on building a separate machine anyway, though, since I want a mini ITX machine that I can leave in my living room. Based on the performance on my current machine, I'm planning on going with with G4560 and 1050 Ti, although I'll probably wait until the prices are a bit more reasonable.
Thank you all for the help. 07-15-2017, 07:52 AM
the 1050 non TI does 1080p just fine.
It's a bit more powerful 750 Ti, which already did 1080p fine in Dolphin. Dolphin's GPU requirements are weird and generally minimal. |
