After making the switch to 4.0, I've found that GC controllers no longer work with Brawl. I'm using a 360 controller, and it works fine for all of my GC games, but the controller commands don't seem to be passed to the game anymore. Is anyone else having this issue?
Brawl & GC Controller-no longer works

Click the Wiimote icon in Dolphin and make sure that Wiimote 1 is set to None. Additionally, click the Config icon and go to the Gamecube tab and make sure Port 1 is set to standard controller. That should be all you need to do.

Ha. If only it were that simple. If it were that simple, I would have no need to post here, but it isn't. Surely someone else has had the same issue considering Brawl's popularity. If it is only me, then what on earth makes my system so broken? The only thing I've done out of the norm is removing some translation file in /source/somethingorother/WxWidgets/cmake.txt since it was breaking my compilation process. Surely this isn't connected to the controller issue though? I'm hoping someone may help shed some light on the issue.

It is simple really. Though any one can mess up even simple things
Post your settings as screenshots. Click the Wiimote icon (take one screenshot of this) and click the Config icon and go into Gamecube tab (another screenshot of this) and lastly click the GCPad icon for the last screenshot). Personally, I've never had an issue with any Wii game that uses the GC Controller. Other people have had similar issues, but most (if not all) were issues of oversight in regards to one little setting or another. That's probably your case (if not, then something is screwed up :p). 11-16-2013, 03:37 PM
Well you are using Ubuntu, try using a real Linux distro :p
Jokes aside, I just tried Brawl myself with my 360 controller without issue. Like I said, something's screwed up. Have you tried using the stable 4.0 release instead? Another thing to try if you could: click the Graphics icon and go to the Advanced tab. Under Misc., you should see an option called Show Input Display. It should show a little "P1" in the upper-lefthand corner now. Play Brawl and start moving buttons around. It should show you any input Dolphin is sending to the game. Does anything show up or does it show up but refuse to do anything in-game? 11-17-2013, 10:46 AM
Dolphin reads the input just fine. It just doesn't do anything. :/
No, I didn't use 4.0 (or 4.0.1) because I caught the update after a few more dev releases. Once I figure out how to pull a specific version from git, I'll give the two a try. I'll try a PS3 controller today when my friend gets here, so we'll at least know if it's controller specific or a more general issue. Back to jokes, what do you mean a real Linux distro?!!?? Ubuntu is easy (or at least as easy as Linux distros get) and if it weren't so, I'd still be stuck with Windoze. Not having to reformat every few months is really nice. lol 11-17-2013, 11:15 AM
Yeah, it looks like Dolphin is sending the input to the game, so the problem isn't with the controller or anything. If you're using a 64-bit version of Ubuntu, you can install this .deb file for 4.0: https://dl-mirror.dolphin-emu.org/4.0/do..._amd64.deb
To pull from git, make sure to clone into Dolphin's source code repository on Google Code, then run: Code: git checkout c25be031fc1031d795157d8344b87b7841145197 That's the commit hash for the 4.0 release. Anytime you want to pull a specific revision, just substitute the hash for the correct commit. If it's not a fresh clone (as in you're using an existing clone, but you've made some changes and git complains when checking out 4.0) then run this command to revert everything back to HEAD Code: git reset HEAD --hard By the way, which game are you trying to play in that screenshot? It doesn't look like Brawl to me, at least my version (Day 1 NTSC-U purchase) always showed a white Wiimote onscreen. i418c Wrote:Back to jokes, what do you mean a real Linux distro?!!?? If you don't boot into the CLI, you're not using real Linux :p Like I said, just jokes. Obviously I have my preferences (Slackware) but I have like 3 machines that run Ubuntu or a derivative. I just like to poke fun at them sometimes. Anyway, hope we can get to the bottom of your issue though. 11-19-2013, 12:36 PM
4.0 doesn't work at all (meaning it fails to launch any game, GC or Wii)! So I guess I'm unable to test that version. I tried 4.0-100 and 200, 100 didn't work at all, and 200 has the same issue with the GC controller. I failed to test the PS3 controller (due to my forgetfulness), but it doesn't work with keyboard either, so I guess that's irrelevant.
The game in the screenshot is Brawl. I downloaded a texture mod from here a while back. So I guess I'll stick to 3.5 to play Brawl (and Project M). Though keeping 2 versions around is quite a pain. I guess I could use my Wiimotes to play, but it'd be difficult to relearn. Or set up an emulated Wiimote with the controller. Of course, that shouldn't be a "fix." I'm going to hope that A:this gets resolved in future dev releases by some form of voodoo magic, or B:come April (when the next LTS will surely come out) a fresh install will of the OS will solve whatever I did to break my install. So thanks for the troubleshooting tips, but alas, I'm doomed! (Side note, considering 4.0 is supposed to be a "stable" release, why did it fail to launch games on my system? I was under the impression that it's supposed to be (relatively) bug-free.) 11-19-2013, 01:04 PM

I know saying "well it works for me" doesn't make it work for you, but it's still a clue. If you can test another OS temporarily (or on another machine), you might be able to at least determine if it's something hardware related (doubtful about that, but you should check every lead anyway) or if the problem is in software somewhere. For the time being, 3.5 doesn't seem so bad. You can always make an icon in Unity that launches Dolphin 3.5 and automatically boots into your game of choice (I do this all the time with KDE's Kickoff), so you can have one-click access to Brawl. Dolphin 4.0 and 3.5 will look at ~/.dolphin-emu for settings, so you can actually share a lot of settings between the two versions without actually changing much, so it's often a case of being able to boot both versions together without any further hassle. |
