Hey everyone!
Long time lurker and dolphin enthusiast here. Used to play 2.0 in my dorm room on whatever laptops we could find, but never had any decent hardware of my own. Fast forward 6 yrs, and now I have disposable income to get this passion project off the ground! I have long wanted to build a machine that can run GC/Wii in 4K. I did my best to make an educated build based on what I read here and Reddit, here's what I eventually made:
Windows 10
Intel G3258 (4.2 ghz stable is the highest I can get)
970 GTX
Crucial Ballistix 4GB x2
MSI H81M-P33 LGA 1150
430W EVGA ATX12V Power Supply
Problem is I'm hitting slowdowns and jumpiness in Brawl/MK Wii/Super Mario Galaxy. Wanted to see what you guys thought. I've lowered the resolution down to the 1080-1440p range and I still see lots of choppiness from time to time especially in the MK Wii menus. Brawl always lags when characters step off their platforms at the start of a match. Does this sound like a processor bottleneck to you? OpenGL is my best front end with this nvidia card, right?
I've messed with almost all of the settings in Dolphin, and have been unable to get a seamless experience. I guess my main question is am I missing the horsepower with the G3258? Opinions vary on this, but my PSU is a little weak. Would you suggest a replacement? I went overboard on the GFX card cause I wanted 4K to run like butter but I realize now that I should have gotten a nicer mobo and processor as well for only a little extra cash. I've learned a ton, I might end up picking up a Z97 and an i5 to just go all of the way; I just wanted to reach out because the way a lot of people talk on here makes it seem like this setup should handle just about anything.
Thanks very much for reading/any advice you have. This is an awesome community.
