Hello, I'm new and I had a question regarding 5.1 sound on GC/Wii.
At one time, I was able to enjoy Dolby Pro logic II sound on gamecube, which worked really well, on games like Resident Evil 4, where enemies approaching from behind could be heard on surrounds channel only.
Of course, stereo matrixing does not allow sound information to be as clear as a native 5.1 output, but Nintendo did not want to add a 5.1 optical output, it was necessary to use the stereo output.
I was wondering if it would be possible to bypass conversion (5.1 => 2.0) that the console or game does internally?
Even though Dolphin added a system to dematrix stereo audio to 5.1, the system still generates a 5.1 => 2.0 => 5.1 conversion.
If we could access the 5.1 stream before it's converted to 2.0 by the system, we could get discrete native 5.1.
Have any developers looked into this ?
