How much processing power is needed for dolphin. What kind of processors can run dolphin full speed at low resolution, medium resolution, and high resolution. Do I need an i7 to get full speed in HD, or will a high clocked Core 2 or i3 work?
What processor do I need for dolphin?

Some Games Wont Run Full Speed even with a core i7 CPU (SMG/SMG2) !! I Recommend Sandy bridge and OCing it to 4GHZ at least to play games with out any CPU bottleneck.
The resolution depends ONLY on the GPU you use , so the higher resolution you want to play at, the more powerful GPU you must have to keep the gameplay smooth at full speed ( i.e a gpu like 5770HD cant keep up with resolutions like 1080p with SSAA X4 if u want 60FPS all the time ).

You pretty much want to have a dual-core or better processor, something around or above 3GHZ. 03-28-2011, 04:25 AM
I used to have a overclocked Core 2 Duo E6600 running at 3.3Ghz, and that pretty much ran most games at full speed, obviously not the hub world in SMG, but alot of the other games. I now have a Core i5-2500K, and it plays everything at full speed or higher, including SMG. In terms of basics, you want to go with atleast a dual-core running at 3Ghz minimum.

You need at least an OCed i5 to play some of the heavier games like SMG/SMG2 at fullspeed. An i5 is fine though since dolphin doesn't take advantage of HT in any way their is essentially no difference between a quad core i5 vs. i7 as far as dolphin is concerned. And like metalNumb said the gpu determines what resolution you can use without slowdowns, not the cpu.

So what benefit does an i5 have over a Core 2 or i3. Are there some games that need an i5/i7 to get full speed? Are there enhancements that need a fast processor?
