sonic and knuckles VC no longer works
|
I am getting bizarre emulation errors running this game. It flickers badly and runs at half-speed without any XFB emulation, but turning on Virtual XFB results in an off-center, still-flickering picture, and the game doesn't even boot with Real XFB. I remembered to set the texture cache accuracy to safe. I should note that Sonic 3 ran fine. WTH?

EDIT: I just realized that the game is in fact attempting to boot as Sonic 3 & Knuckles, since this was a rip from my actual Wii, and the last time I booted S&K on it, I booted it into S3&K. Might that be the issue? FURTHER EDIT: I just tested the game on all four video backends. It doesn't render properly on any of them—even the software renderer shifts the emulated image up and to the right. D3D9, D3D11 and OGL all render with heavy glitches with XFB off or Virtual. All three of them often crash the emulator when Real XFB is enabled, and when they don't, they simply boot the game to a black screen.

Genesis and SNES games run half speed normally. Turn on "Progressive Scan" will fix that. I don't know about your "flickering" but the halfspeed issue is known.

All video backends (discounting Software Renderer, which had its own glitches with this game) had the same graphics errors with XFB off or Virtual. Their behavior with Real XFB varies: D3D9 crashes the emulator upon game launch. D3D11 at least has the decency to throw the following error message before also crashing the emulator: "DX11::XFBEncoder::EncodeFailed in Src\XFBEncoder.cpp at line 354: map staging buffer" OGL boots the game to a black screen, but at least it doesn't crash Dolphin.

Other VC titles I've tried all works, including Sonic 3. I've tried everything from deleting the saves and using LLE audio and nothing seems to work.
working here on latest dev builds. Since I can't reproduce the problem, I'll need more details or logs or something.

Okay, it works fine under OpenGL, but not Vulkan, which I'm pretty sure used to work fine. Vulkan still runs every other VC title fine except this one.

D3D9 is not part of the master branch?!? You are using Ishiiruka, thus you should go to Tino's thread in the Development discussion part of this forum since forks of master aren't supported here on this part of the forum but only in their dedicated thread. If you want support from our side, download the latest development version from the Download page: https://dolphin-emu.org/download/
