I've tried the DSP fix (both HLE and LLE) with SMG2 on Rev 4710 and 6120 to no avail. I can't get past the first Grand star, does anyone know some workaround for this ?

It must be specific to you then, it's passable just fine with LLE. It's also passable with HLE by unchecking, in the DSP settings, turning volume down to 1% and using the OpenAL backend. In fact it's more passable with LLE and with sound since LLE directly emulates the actual DSP of the GC/Wii so it must be another issue that you are experiencing.
You can start by posting your settings. Do you hear any sound when the game black screens, because when it black screens the game usually freezes with no sound. 08-25-2010, 07:28 PM
Ok, with OpenAL, all LLE settings off, 1% volume, DX9 plugin, the sound is very choppy and skips every second, but I used this plugin from the last save to the part where you get the Grandstar, and now it suddenly works, the transition was quick at the moment the freeze occured previously, and I can access World 2 without crash. Thanks for the help and I hope this works for the next one too.

That's only for HLE, you can leave all settings enabled and use the Dsound backend with LLE. LLE sound is choppy because the game is not running at full speed, LLE is more tightly synced than HLE.
