In terms of the legality, being for-profit shouldn't make any difference to whether what they were doing was okay. It makes them a less sympathetic target in front of a jury, and means there's actual money for Nintendo to go after as damages, but that shouldn't be the deciding factor in whether something's a crime.

Just like how I own a launch-day softmodded Wii, I own a launch-day softmodded 3DS, and both are systems that haven't been available to purchase new for quite a few years now...

This is the bigger problem for me; thankfully it was available as an appimage, so compiled Linux builds can still be archived and mirrored and the like. But Dolphin? On Linux, it's flatpak only if you want anything newer than the old 5.0 and therefore you're "tied to the cloud" if you ever need to make a new installation of your Linux OS or decide to purchase a Steam Deck or the like.

With Yuzu at least we have a viable alternative (Ryujinx) but with Citra....that one burns. I can use my real 3DS of course but then I'm limited to 240p resolution.

I was in need of a new laptop in hurry, and at store I was offered a MSI gaming one with good specs -including an Nvidia GPU-, but 8 Gb RAM. It was $1000 in price.
Could that be enough to play Dolphin emu and Yuzu even just at native resolutions? And even if I'm on Linux. Right now I'm only worried about the RAM... And if RAM expansion is not possible, should I ask a refund? Thanks. 03-19-2024, 05:32 AM

Also you've ignored the CPU which is really what Dolphin cares the most about since even modern integrated graphics is plenty for running with HD internal resolutions (especially the AMD Ryzen variety of integrated graphics which can do even like 3X internal resolution with exclusive ubershaders). If you want more in-depth hardware discussion, maybe consider making a thread in the Hardware sub-forum...?

Even if it were to run at only 2.2GHz 24/7, that's still "fine" and is still quite similar to a smaller-cache variant of a 4GHz Intel "Haswell" 4th gen desktop chip.

Only 8 GB of RAM will definitely give you trouble with Switch emulation. Some games will run, but the heavier ones (e.g. Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom) will require more memory. 16 GB should be fine, but the more, the better...
