Been messing around with this game. The "black areas" are really annoying, especially for those of us without DX11. I've managed to get it to work correctly recently though for OpenGL. Using "Render to Main Window", I set "Auto Adjust Window Size" and put my IR at 1x, so my Dolphin window is set to 640x528 (the part that renders anyway). Then I switched my IR to Auto (Window Size) while playing the game. This seems to get rid of the black areas completely.
Some things to note, any AA brings the black areas back. The same thing applies to entering Fullscreen mode. I also have to switch between 1x and Auto (Window Size) every time I play; not a huge deal, but starting Dolphin with my IR set to Auto doesn't seem to fix it right away. 1x IR doesn't solve it for me, even though it should be the same size when set to Auto. Scaled EFB Copies makes no difference after the black areas have been eliminated. Turning it on or off, thankfully, doesn't bring them back. It's a shame to play this game at such a low resolution though; it looks great in HD. I'll take the black areas just for that, though hopefully the issue will get fixed eventually. 07-20-2014, 09:10 AM
Contrary to the updated Wiki guidelines after the fix in 4.0-1474, I seem to be able to use 2x IR even without disabling Scaled EFB Copy in 4.0-2221. The only thing that causes the black areas for me is enabling AA.

For some reason, Sonic Heroes looks like its native resolution rather than the 3840x2160 I have it set as. Other games display at that resolution and look amazing, but Sonic Heroes looks extremely low res . Does anyone know of a solution to this issue?
I believe the INI for this game forces the IR to 1x. You can override it by opening the graphics settings while playing, but you might get graphical issues as a result. If you do so, make sure to set the texture cache accuracy to safe, because the INI won't be able to do it automatically anymore.

It wouldn't let me change resolution, but I changed internal resolution from (auto) window size to 2560x2112, and that worked. I did get some graphical issues, though. |
