Well without knowing your settings I can't advise you (just for future reference). I hate to say this but it was probably a fluke. Metroid prime occasionally crashes for no reason in any revisions no matter what settings you use. Some revisions are more stable than others (crashing occurs less often) but no matter what revision you use you will get at least 3-4 crashes by the end of the game. Usually if you retry the area again enough times you'll eventually get through it without crashing, I doubt it had anything to do with that revision.

Hi, I'm posting here since NaturalViolence told to do so. I was really surprised of your message, NaturalVilence. I've played Metroid Prime 1 fine without ANY kind of crashes, except when I ocassionaly quicksave the game, and it just happened now and then, from version 4460. I believe the problem that I have, and you don't have, and viceversa, might be because I'm using windows XP SP3. The DirectX is updated to the last version, but it's still DirectX 9.0c. I've found a way to make the visor work, by using the Direct3D video plugin, instead of the OpenGL plugin. In version 6200, the game crashed with no appereant reason a few minutes after I started the game. So I switched to version 6192, since older versions seem to have a problem with Metroid Prime 2, like the author explains in version 6193, I believe. I'll try this version and see if it works. But the question would be: Could I have the problems I have because I'm using Windows XP and DirectX9?

Quote:Could I have the problems I have because I'm using Windows XP and DirectX9? No. XP is a little bit slower than win7 with dolphin but other than that it runs it just as well. And at the moment d3d9 is superior to opengl in both performance and accuracy in the majority of games, including this one. Recent builds have much worse stability issues than older builds. For this game I recommend you use a build from before 5300 if you want good stability. I also still don't know your settings. In order to get the visors working properly you need to be using efb to ram. If you just want the scan visor to work and not the others than efb to texture is fine. I should also mention that safe texture cache needs to be on and set to fast to reduce the frequency of crashes (it makes the difference between constant crashing and a couple crashes the whole game).

Hey there.
I'm no computer whiz, but after several tests with different settings and revisions I managed to run Metroid Prime at fairly decent speed using Dolphin 2.0. My Settings: use directx9 plugin - disable framelimit ( speed up on small areas) - disable audio throttle - disable EFB access (prevents obscene slowdowns on bigger areas, slowdowns will still occur but not as huge) - disable audio hack (otherwise you'll experience crispy sound and slowdowns) - enable safe texture cache (fast) (as many have noticed, this prevents crash, however there are rare exceptions. Beware) - copy EFB to texture (less graphic glitches, slightly faster) - disable fog (prevents slowdowns when looking upon corridors and helmet moisture effects) Settings that may work (these depend on your system) - use Jitl experimental recompiler (inestable, but speeds up the game a little) - disable lock threads to cores ( if I enable this I get weird speeds, sometimes way to fast and suddenly too slow) - disable all graphic enhancement options (you'll hardly hit good speeds with these enabled) My system specs: - AMD Turion II x2 dual core p520 - ATI Radeon HD 4250 - 3GB Ram - 320 GB HDD Average FPS : 27 - 30 (25 on pendrana drifts and magmoor caverns) certain wide open areas such as chozo ruins entrance and phazon mines entrance area are slow : 16-18 fps vps: 50 speed 80%- 96% *shooting and weapon change will also cost some FPS (to workaround with the bigger slowdowns, you may set frameskipping "2", but only if you want) thanks and let me know if these worked for you. 09-14-2010, 07:07 AM
Shr0oms@I had the same settings except framelimit 60 (I hate unnecessary frames, just in vain), EFB to RAM/tex, (changed back and forfth) and no frameskipping.
I'm curious, I have never tried frame skipping. What does it do and is it really that useful during a huge lag?

@Shr0oms
You realize all you had to do was look up metroid prime on the wiki: http://www.dolphin-emu.org/wiki/index.ph...roid_Prime Your settings match the settings you should be using on a low end rig. Although you will edventually have to switch to efb to ram since the thermal/x-ray visor don't work properly without it, and on your rig it will murder your framerate unless your on an older build. I would also recommend setting framelimit to 60 instead of turning it off. Quote:I'm curious, I have never tried frame skipping. What does it do and is it really that useful during a huge lag? Frame skipping does exactly what it says, it skips frames. And yes it is useful when your gamespeed is very low. Frameskipping allows you to run at a higher gamespeed even if your framerate is poor.

Quote:What's the downside? If your actually capable of getting close to fullspeed it lowers your actual framerate. In other words if you can run the game close to fullspeed you'll be losing some frames and therefore the game won't be quite as smooth or fluid.

Thanks. I didn't know about the wiki link. I'm new to this
As for the settings. This is by far the only game that has given me trouble I get full speed in many other games that have greater graphic output. I'm guessing it's a compatibility issue, since wii games run way better than GC ones. (At least for me) I forgot to mention the broken visor thing. I tend to switch the EFB often as all MP saga games require switching this back and forth to work. curiously enough, mi MP is crashless and the thermal visor works with texture, except it's all messed up and you're half blind when using it. |
