I think the encryption will be the largest road block. I think when the emulation scene gets more people on board that understand how to do computational work with a graphics card we'll see much better emulation. It's pretty much required to emulate the highly parallel systems that are making their way onto the market now. The graphics card I have in my system is a bit dated, but it still punches through atmospheric calculation in seconds that would take weeks if I ran it across the CPU.

If we're talking pure power and not even the encryption, it's already a ridiculous task to run the emu. Say for example the Wii U has 30 times the power of Wii. That takes 30 times (+ additional for more complexity?) than today's i7s to emulate. That's 10 years of hardware improvements.

As well as most of the other users' computers. Oh and also, Dolphin's biggest purpose is run Wii games in HD, that's not needed for the WiiU anymore. Let's say the WiiU was emulation-able, the only purpose of an emulator for that would be it serving as a pirate bay (no pun intended).
The WiiU is a joke hardware-wise. My current computer can already outperform the WiiU. Also, dolphin's biggest purpose IS NOT to just run Wii games in HD. Furthermore, WiiU does not upscale Wii games, and does not play gamecube games at all -> not interesting.

Quote:and does not play gamecube games at all We don't know this for sure. It doesn't have a compatible disc drive but they could always release an external drive or attachment for the GC mini-DVDs. And it's safe to assume that if the WiiU can run wii games it could run GC games if it had the proper type of disc drive connected. After all the GC had the gameboy player attachment which allowed you to run GBA games on it.

The only details we know right now is a IBM Power-based multicore CPU and a custom Radeon GPU. Not saying you're wrong (you're probably right), but I wouldn't be calling the hardware a joke until we actually know what the hardware is. (But it will always be a joke to PC enthusiasts who don't get the point of home consoles, but that's beyond the point.) Also this thread should probably be moved to the general discussion forum. 06-11-2011, 08:47 PM
I hope Nintendo will share WII U source code and make google code project for IT

Quote:I hope Nintendo will share WII U source code and make google code project for IT That makes no sense. The wiiu is a piece of hardware, not software, it has no source code. Unless you mean the wiiu OS, which wouldn't help us at all since it's designed for the wiiu's hardware.

Let's hope he was being sarcastic or trying to be funny..
Wii-U emulation won't happen for the same reason PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation will not happen, at least not for a long time. Even if the documentation is all there, there is no system on this entire planet that could emulate either system at reasonable speeds, you are literally looking at maybe 1 - 5 FPS tops on current hardware if you are lucky and maybe not even that much. 06-17-2011, 05:06 AM
uuhhh I went through all the replys and like always theres the little geeks with their "epic fail " and " i cant belive someone asked this question " LMAO.ROFL . idiots! wow , kids you know ,makes me laugh.
anyways. Wiiu will be runing on an Rv770 wich is a powerfull chip. 8core cpus are coming next month . If all these flaming nerds were right then we would have no emulation at all . is this the end of emulation? nope! , Nintendo wii u will be hacked fast! the next ps4 and xbox 720 wont because they will spend millions on making it secure. Wheather or not there will be a Wii u emulator will depends on the top hackers of the world. |
