I was trying to get Super Mario Galaxy to work on Dolphin and it's good I can get through the main menu right up until I select a planet it tells me to point my wiimote at the screen what's going on?

Good job at giving as little information as possible.
When using a real wiimote you need a sensor bar.
When using an emulated wiimote you can use your mouse, make sure "upright wiimote" is off.
