Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 UPDATED - SOLUTION FOUND! - pilone71 - 05-31-2010 Hi Everybody, I have a 16:9 display so i make intensive use of Widescreen Hack feature on 4:3 Games. I noticed that beginning r5280 it has no effect on 4:3 Wii Games. It's very strange because with GC Games i have no problem at all even with the latest revisions. I tried all the available Aspect Ratio options with no luck. If anybody out there has a solution it will be appreciated! ![]() UPDATE!!! Go to Settings -> Wii and set aspect ration to 16:9. Go to Settings -> Wii and set aspect ration to 16:9. I tried either 16:9 and Stretch. With GC Games Widescreen Hack is Working, I have a 16:9 3D Graphics (not stretched). With Wii 4:3 Games i have a stretched 4:3 3D Graphics, With old revisions before r5280 3D Graphics were not stretched (only 2D are) and behaved like a GC Game. Example: Let's load Bloody Roar Primal Fury with r5556 and without Widescreen Hack ![]() Enabling Widescreen Hack i get this: ![]() Now let's load Rygar with the same revision and settings: Without Widescreen Hack ![]() With Widescreen Hack ON ![]() Now let's load Rygar with r5278 With Widescreen Hack ON
RE: Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 - pilone71 - 06-01-2010 Solved! I had to change Aspect Ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 in this TAB And then leave 16:9 in the Graphics Plugin Settings.
RE: Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 - boogerlad - 06-01-2010 what version of dolphin is that? RE: Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 - Billiard26 - 06-01-2010 You don't need the widescreen hack to play wii games in 16:9 :/ Wii games already support 16:9. By changing the wii AR setting to 4:3 like you just did, you disabled that. :/ RE: Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 - pilone71 - 06-01-2010 (06-01-2010, 02:57 PM)Billiard26 Wrote: You don't need the widescreen hack to play wii games in 16:9 :/ There are few Wii Games that don't support 16:9, Example (Rygar, The House Of the Dead 2, Super Swing Golf, Trauma Center Secon Opinion), these games wont work with Widescreen Hack if Aspect Ratio is set to 16:9 in the Configuration Wii Tab. Setting it to 4:3 but leaving it to 16:9 in the GFX Plugin Tab allow Dolphin to treat these games as they were 4:3 GC. Other 16:9 Wii Games run perfectly in 16:9 as before. As said before i had to change this setting starting from revision 5280.As you can read in revision 5280 Log there was a big change in the aspect ratio handling: r5280 CHANGELOG: "Tweaked the widescreen hack: It now "hacks" to and from any aspect ratio, not just from 4:3 to 16:9. When "Stretch to Window" is chosen, the aspect ratio will be adjusted to 5:4, 16:10, or anything (whatever the aspect ratio of the window is). Works for 4:3 and 16:9 games." Anyway now that i solved the problem i can play all type of Aspect Ratio: 4:3 GC and Wii Games can use widescreen Hack. 16:9 Wii Games run perfectly as before and i don't have to touch any setting. Of course 2D graphics get stretched but 3D are perfect. By the way this is the only working solution to play 4:3 Wii Games with 16:9 3D with new revisions. I think it's not a Direct X issue (i installed February 2010 DX Runtime already and i have the latest NVIDIA Drivers) but the way Dolphin stretches that changed with r5280. RE: Widescreen Hack not working with 4:3 Wii games since r5280 - Billiard26 - 06-01-2010 The widescreen hack no longer assumes the game is running at 4:3 and the user has a 16:9 screen. That was the change. If you have the wii setting on 16:9, the hack will think no adjustment needs to be made to go to 16:9. That is the issue you are having. Those few wii games that don't support 16:9 will have this issue unless you choose 4:3 in the wii settings. But it's better this way. Now 16:9 games can hacked to 16:10 or w/e aspect ratio you are using. Maybe the hack can be changed to look at the projection's values to see which aspect ratio the game is using instead of assuming all wii games run at 16:9 when in 16:9 mode. That was the change. Thanks for info, i understand that my problem is not so big and the change made with aspect ratio brought a significant improvement. Hopefully 4:3 Wii Games will not be released anymore. I'm happy i found a solution for it since some of the 4:3 Wii Games are also my favourite. Thanks again! ![]() I Think i found a definitive solution for this problem! First put back the Aspect Ratio to 16:9 in the settings TAB. Leave also Widescreen Hack Checkbox always ON in the Graphics Plugin Settings. ![]() And then select the ini for a 4:3 Wii Game (Rygar in the example) and uncheck "Enable Widescreen" ![]() This way you will have Hack only on selected Wii 4:3 Games and 16:9 Games with default settings. Editing the ini is not required with GC Games as they are streched with default. |
