Quad-Core Processing - Hairetos - 05-27-2010

Hey, I'm running an Intel Quad-Core processor @ 2.40 GHz and was wondering how well games would run, or if the emulator has quad-core support at all. If it doesn't, would running the game on two CPU's be a proper adjustment?

Faster dual core would be more beneficial I believe.

Well, I figured that much from my experiences with software compatibility on Dual-Core systems and I plan on making my next computer a faster dual-core, but will I have issues running it on four CPU's?

dolphin also uses two cores. The third and fourth won't be used.

If you only intend to use a pc for movies or dolphin you are just better off saving money and buying a core 2 duo or core i3. Dolphin doesn't utilize 4 or 6 core processors fully. Like boogerlad said it will only use 1 core to process game code and another for dsp emulation and video output

Also from my own experience, a quad core and a dual core on the same i5 family. The quad core performs much much better for me, I don't know why but I suppose that it's because Dolphin has two cores for itself and for itself only. Thats then only logical explanation that I can think of, since other cores can be busy with the system, services or other background apps.

Does anyone know if dolphin is going to be made to support 4 cores in the future?

RE: Quad-Core Processing - fabry92 - 06-16-2010

when dolphin will supports 4 cores?

RE: Quad-Core Processing - sNk - 06-16-2010

adding a quadcore support is not an easy thing.... it will take some time... maybe 1 or 2 years? maybe never?

just wait and drink some tea.

Why would it?

There is no need to process much more than game emulation & dsp sound emulation, and video rendering. 2 cores is enough for that, and newer dual cores already yield full fps in games. All quad core processors in conjunction with a good gpu will also give full fps even if just two cores are being utilized.

Wii emulation by dolphin will never 'require' more than 2 cores at reasonable clock frequency to run smoothly. Maybe we can talk about 4, 6, 8, 16 core support 20 years later with xbox360 or ps3 emulators.
