How to gain Performance Increase - thedialysis - 05-10-2010

So im playing harvest moon animal parade with 6fps average.

I checked a few threads already and tried to read up on it. My computer isnt listed in the "For low end pc" threads so i assumed it would do fairly well. My vidcard is even listen in the recommended buy thread. I am running q6600 core 2 quad, 4gb ram, x86 win7 and radeon 4850.

I read up on the startup faq and disabled a few things like fog but it didnt help. Is it because of core affinity? I tried updating directx but it says mine is updated. I still dont see the directx plugin in the plugin menu, it only uses OpenGL.

What build are you running?
In the "Config" menu in Dolphin, enable Dual Core and Idle Skipping, that should give you a speed boost. Do not enable "lock threads to cores" and set the framelimit to auto.
Also, try loading some other games and see how they perform. It might be that the game you're trying to play just isn't supported very well.

I did that and this time, also tried with Direct3d plugin. Best i can get is 30% which quite slow. Playable, but too difficult to do so. I will try some other games.

try to enable efb copy to texture and cpu->efb access in d3d9 graphic option

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - thedialysis - 05-10-2010

Thank you very very much man.

Fps jumped to 30 while vps to 60 at constant.
Using direct 3d settings, btw what is vps?

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - naoan - 05-10-2010

As I understand it stands for "video frame per second", rule of thumb is vps must be 60 for ntsc or 50 for pal to get full speed while fps may half of or the same as vps depending on the game.

cmiiw though :p

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - Xtreme2damax - 05-11-2010

For that game, 30 FPS - 60 VPS might be full speed. Some Gamecube/Wii games run at 30 FPS - 60 VPS or 60 FPS - 60 VPS for NTSC-U at least.

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - MLConian - 05-11-2010

Not just NTSC-U, PAL as well. Games that are capped at 30 FPS - 60/50 VPS that come to mind are Super Mario Sunshine and Zelda: Twilight Princess.

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - thedialysis - 05-11-2010

i spoke too soon

when out in the farming field i only get 50-60% speed, which better than 15% but still incomparable to the screen shots i saw with 90+%

any other tricks?
so far im running direct 3d plugin with 640x480, cpu->efb, disable fog and enable efb->texture. does placing core affinity work?

RE: How to gain Performance Increase - naoan - 05-13-2010

Okay I got the game and yes it is slow, I think this is one of the game where you need a high-end system.
