If you connect directly to the internet, then you're free to go.
If you conenct through a router. Then first we have to know what brand of router are you using, so you can access it (using the DHCP addres = your router address) then i'll direct you through your router config screen for open up a new tcp port (you might want to PM me, for privacy sake xD)

Good luck

i connect through a netgear Wireless-N Gigabit Rangemax WNR3500 v2 wireless router.
EDIT: and if it makes a difference i am trying to play with another computer on my network

RE: Netplay...HELP! - kronox - 05-08-2010

open an internet explorer window and in the address bar type

192.168.1.1

that's your router address
default username and password are : User:admin / password: password
if that doesn't work then someone on your family already changed them.

Now you should be at the router configuration screen. In the menu on the left, under the advanced category, you should see "port forwarding/port triggering" click it (lol)

On service type mark "port forwarding" now in the bottom of the page click on "add custom service"
in the next page you'll see service type --> make sure is set to TCP/UDP. Now in the start and end ports type "2626" without the quotation marks (that's the port dolphin's uses)

Now you only need to know your local IP address
Go to start menu - run and type "cmd" (again without "")
on the console type ipconfig and look for your ip address - If you are on a LAN it should be something like 192.168.x.x
once you know your IP address type it on the "server IP address" field on the port forwarding page you were using earlier

That's it the port should now be correctly forwarded
good luck

What should I do if my ip address isn't static (Since I have a laptop, every time I leave my house and come back my IP is different).

Please create a new thread instead of bumping a 9 year old one.

Having a non-static IP address should be no problem as long as Dolphin is set to use the transversal server, though.
