Recommended HTPC CPU ? - burnout - 04-21-2009

Hello !

What CPU should i use in my next HTPC to be sure to be able to play all games in Dolphin and PCSX2 in FULL SPEED.

It will need to be quite cool and have clocking abilities, Because HTPC Cases doesn't have as good airflow and cooling capabilities like Tower Cases.

Quad or Duo. (Quad runs hotter.)

"I prefer Intel"

Thanks in advance.

The Core i7 familly is just incredible.
I've buyed my i7 @ 2.66 Ghz and OC it in no time @ 4.00 Ghz, just switched the Intel CPU Fan with a Zalman CPS 9990-LED.
46 C Idle & 65 C max in full charge.
Recommanded !

Core i7 is freaking too exxpensive at the moment , I mean not only cpu (250-1000 $), you also need to buy a x58 motherboard (300$) then I think the chipset only accept ddr 3 so it is an oteher 100 box for it !!
So that is roughly 700 $ and it's a quad core!
you better get a core2duo , let's say something around 2.6 or 2.8 ghz !
If you really need a Quad go for Q6600 , very cheap and rock solid !

I'm such an idiot u_u
I didn't know the meaning of HTPC and I've replied to his post completly blinded.
And don't even read the htpc cases vs tower cases...
Sorry, abfab proposal is way better than mine.
A Core 2 with a good Radeon (HD4850 should do the job, I prefer ATI for Home Cinema) are really enough for a HTPC.

2.6 and 2.8 Is Way To Weak...

My Recommended Minimum Is --> 3.33Ghz (Core2Duo)

weak? Not at all. I'm playing smash bros at full speed with an AMD BLACK 2.7 cpu and a weak 9400 GT pre-release model..

Core 2 duo 3.0 GHz is what I recommend, Core 2 duo series comes with a powerfull cooler...
What I am sure is: in this case, dual is better than quad, it is less hot and runs best with dolphin. No great difference to PCSX2 betwin dual and quad.
Hope it helps,

Sorry for my bad English!

I'd recommend the E8400...

Can be clocked up to 4.0ghz if necessary pending motherboard and cooling.
