Dolphin running slow - Not a FPS or rendering problem, running at half speed. - Daolpu_1 - 04-21-2009 Now I know from a quick lurk around this board that it is taboo to even think about asking for help making Dolphin run faster, but I think my problem is different. I can run it fine, I get a stable minimum 30 FPS on Starfox Assualt and Adventures, the only problem is that it runs the game at half speed. The cut scenes are very choppy and played slowly, and gameplay itself is very slow. For example, doing a barrel roll in Assualt takes a good 1.5 seconds to execute. Movement is slow, but the strange thing is, everything is very smooth. I peak at 80 FPS, and minimum of 30. My specs are as follows: Windows Vista 32 bit SP2 AMD 64+ Duo Core ~3.0 ghrz nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512mb 3 GB DDR2 RAM Using the Dolphin SVN 2962 build. I could make a copy available of my DxDiag or a video on youtube if no one understands what I mean. Thank you for your help. If this is a fairly common problem and I'm just another one of the assorted new guys who doesn't know a damn thing about what he's saying feel free to make that clear. RE: Dolphin running slow - Not a FPS or rendering problem, running at half speed. - envisaged0ne - 04-21-2009 Check out this thread http://forums.dolphin-emu.org/thread-37.html It might have some info that can help you RE: Dolphin running slow - Not a FPS or rendering problem, running at half speed. - Daolpu_1 - 04-21-2009 Thank you got the suggestion, however this is universal through all my games. I considered putting that in the OP but decided not to, probably should. RE: Dolphin running slow - Not a FPS or rendering problem, running at half speed. - Xtreme2damax - 04-22-2009 AMD processors are just not strong enough to run most 3D games in Dolphin without lag or slowdowns, you'll find that this is usually the case with CPU intensive emulators such as Pcsx2 and Dolphin. Also rendering and graphics emulation in Dolphin is far from complete, you'll find that some/most games either have missing or corrupted graphics and hefty performance issues/slowdowns. There is even slowdowns with some games on Core2Duo's/Core2Quads, however it's not as bad as it is with AMD processors.. Once the emulator progresses in development, performance will likely increase and requirements might slightly go down, but don't expect any significant improvements with an AMD CPU. AMD's architecture is less powerful than the architecture on the Core2Duo, Core2Quad, Core i7, and any CPU based off of the Core2 architecture, thus slower with CPU intensive applications. Try a Phenom Based (X2, X3 or X4 your choice) AMD cpu for a change, your motherboard is most likely compatible. |
