Are there hacks for Wii games to make the gamecube controller work? - Aussieguy - 08-03-2022

Hi, just wondering if its possible for people to make hacks (or if they are available now) where certain Wii games only support the Nunchuku controller and nothing else, for them to be able to work with a normal controller?

I know people do hacks for many things and didnt know if this was already available now or if its possible, thanks.

as far as i know there are no hacks, BUT you can configure wiimote plus nunchuck functions to a controller on dolphin-

example, you can map the nunchuk's analog to your gamepad/controller's left analog stick & the wiimote's gyro, or a "shake" to a button or an axis - anther example - for new super mario brothers i mapped the wiimote's tilts to the L & R triggers of a 360 controller or gamecubes LR triggers...
if you do this i recommend that you name a profile & make it very distinct - if you don't want to bother other games or don't want to go back and forth, install another dolphin emu in a different folder, make a portable.txt file where the executable is located before you run the game & you will have a portable dolphin just for that one game

if you mean actual hardware, i have only seen controller mod hacks on N64 games

So you posted this in support > controllers, so you are saying this is about Dolphin, not console. But with Dolphin's mapping system, so you can make any controller appear like a nunchuk to the game.

Which scenario are you in that is preventing you from doing that?

They are saying there shouldn't be any need to do what you are asking when you can just configure controllers and anyway you like through Dolphin's controller settings.

Its just I tried to map punchout wii to a ps4 controller a while back and it still didnt work right . Now I got a xbox controller but I just couldn't get all the tilt and movement  right with both wii controllers to work on a standard controller.

Ohh ok then. I will probably just leave it then and stick to gamecube games because it was very hard for me to map every controller off the nunchuku wii controllers to a standard controller.

Im not a dev but thought it might be easy for someone to enable games to work with a standard controller, like a option in a in file or some file ?

If you are using Dolphin's master version, mapping wii remote motions is quite easy. Just go to controllers, emulated wii remote, and configure the motion simulation. If you are using a fork on an xbox... it's awful, from what I understand. The fork makes a lot of compromises.
