Unable to open save state in matching version of Dolphin - Taako - 07-26-2022
I have a save state for a game I really need to recover and it's from an old computer i backed up a while ago.
I tried loading it in Dolphin 5.0-16793 (very recent) and it said it wasn't compatible. I found a reddit thread that said you can read the hex of a save state to see which version it was saved on but the hex file just says Dolphin 5.0
I tried downloading all sorts of 5.0 versions and even the 5.0 Stable version which is super old. None of them seem to work. Is there a better way I can determine which version of Dolphin this save state was saved on so i can recover it?

If it says just Dolphin 5.0, that means the 5.0 stable release.
There are a few settings that affect whether you can load a savestate. Try toggling DSP HLE/DSP LLE and MMU on/off.

Thank you! i was able to toggle some stuff and get it loaded! Got my save transferred to latest Beta by saving through memory card!!!
BTW this is super off topic but why doesn't dolphin release stable versions anymore? It seems to just always be in beta.

The devs are looking into a better way to do a sort of "stable" release instead of the old way of using a feature freeze and only regression fixing, as it kills developer momentum
