Trying to make MacOS Dolphin share same save directory as Bootcamp's Dolphin - badumtshh - 08-25-2020

Hi, first time posting, so please let me know if I'm doing this posting thing wrong.

Anyways, I have a 2019 macbook pro with a bootcamp dual boot thing going on, let me know if you guys need more info on my computer specs other than the stuff I have in my profile.
I have dolphin on both the windows 10 and macos partitions. Usually I will use dolphin to play games when I boot into windows because i like directx12 more than vulkan, but since I tend to multitask with some mac only programs while playing, I'd like to be able to play on the MacOS while sharing the same game file directory and save paths, so I can continue my game normally. Also it's a pain to have to restart my computer every time.

So far I have the game iso directory figured out, and I changed the settings on the MacOS dolphin so the game titles show up, using the iso files on my Bootcamp partition. (good way to save hard drive space, since I dont have to have copies of the game isos on both partitions)

Now the part I'm having trouble with is the save directories.

From my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong please), the Windows Dolphin will have separate save paths for GC and Wii?

How would I tweak the MacOS Dolphin so it opens and saves to the Bootcamp savepaths?

So there are two options you can do. This is assuming both OSes can access a shared location, btw, which I believe you have already sorted.

First, you can set the GameCube memory card location (set in Config > GameCube ) to the same file on both OSes, and then set the Wii NAND Root (Config > Paths) to the same location on each OS. With that, both OSes will use the same saves. However nothing else will be shared, so no savestates, configuration, anything. This isn't as convenient as the below method, but this will definitely work.

The other method would be to set your Global User Directory to the same on both. This would allow Dolphin to share ALL generated files, so saves, but also savestates, controller bindings, settings, etc. However, this maaaay break. I don't know how compatible it would be and what features would work. But it's an option, and it might work fine as I've never actually tried it myself. It sounds sketchy though.

Hey thanks for helping!

I had attempted to change the gci folder location (Config-Gamecube-Slot A-GCI Folder) but the file change button (the three dots) is greyed out and I'm unable to change it. If I set the option to Memory Card, then I'm able to click on the three dots to change the file location, but that's not what I'm trying to do Sad
I will attempt the Global User Directory now and give you an update.
