disabling skip efb access makes Super Mario Galaxy unplayable - JPBeek - 07-16-2019

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a Oneplus 7 Pro and installed the Dolphin emulator right away, to play all those fantastic old games. I am really reliving my youth with this great emulator :-) A great thanks to developers of the Dolphin team!

But when I played Super Mario Galaxy (which runs perfectly by the way), I noticed I couldn't use the pullstars in Super Mario Galaxy 1 or Yoshi's tongue in Galaxy 2. Someone old me I should "disable skip efb access" so that I was able to use the pullstars or Yoshi's tongue. It is true that is works but the side effect is that it is hardly playable anymore. Everything becomes unstable/slow and the music starts stuttering. It is hardly playable anymore, which is a real pity, since the game runs perfectly with the option on.

Is there something else I need to configure so i could use the pullstars/Yoshi's tongue without losing performance or playability?

With dear regards,

JP

No. Super Mario Galaxy simply is a demanding game to emulate when using the proper settings.

Thanks for your comment, but I already use Vulkan, that's why the game runs so incredibly smooth. But as soon as I disable Skip efb access, so I can use the Pullstars to progress in the levels, the game gets unplayable.

Current Android flagships simply don't have enough power or mature enough GPU drivers to handle demanding games like Super Mario Galaxy. Have fun choosing between smooth performance but broken game mechanics or proper game mechanics but bad performance.

So there is no special tweak to prevent the game from becoming unplayable when disabling skip efb access, so I can use the pullstars and Yoshi's tongue? Is there anybody who can play Super Mario Galaxy smoothly and still use the pullstars and Yoshi's tongue? If so can you please share your settings?

Thanks in advance

Yes, people who are using PCs. I don't think you're going to find anyone who can do it on an Android phone.
