Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door (Android) - Problem with Shhwonk Fortress - baohtr - 06-28-2019

Hey Guys,

I installed the Dolphin Version 5.0-10560 for Android and I have a Problem with Paper Mario 2. Normally the Game is always by 50-60 FPS but when I get to the Shhwonk Fortress, they drop to 30 FPS. So I recently read in the Dolphin Wiki that I can speed up my emulator in the shhwonk fortress, when I use gecko codes. I tried my best but I don’t know exactly how I get it on my android phone. I would really appreciate it, when someone can comment down below how I can get gecko codes on my android phone, to fix these FPS drops in the Shhwonk Fortess. Btw. I have a Xiaomi Mi9 SE with Snapdragon 712, so I think it should work on my phone.

PS: sorry for bad English I’m from Germany

I fixed the Problem now, I forgot to disable Bbox in the G8MP01.ini so it works now, but I have now a glitch. When I enter a pipe a black character of Mario or of his partner appears and when I leave the pipe it disappears. Does anybody know how to fix this glitch?

That glitch is caused by having bounding box disabled. This game needs to have it turned on in order to work correctly.

And, since bounding box is pretty much taxing on most GPUs (yes, that includes the desktop counterparts), expect frequent lag during gameplay.

That's not an issue on desktop GPUs anymore for quite some time already...

It is still relatively taxing - the difference being anything but the oldest desktop GPU still has power to spare so you probably wouldn't even notice without a very high IR. A desktop CPU is maybe 2-3x the power of a mobile device, but the GPU can quite easily be 20x the speed - it just scales better with power and die size.

I have another Problem, when I use Paper techniques like the transition to flat Mario (sideways), laying in bed or just go down a pipe, my emulator drops to 20 fps because of these “paper animations”. After that it goes again to 50-60 fps. Can I fix it in the settings of the emulator or somehow different?

Like others already have said, bounding box emulation is rather demanding. I don't think you can get every part of the game to run at full speed on a phone.
