Dolby Pro Logic II with Stereo? - Zerowalker - 04-08-2019 Is Dolby Pro Logic II worth is with Stereo? Meaning does Dolby Pro Logic II downmixed to Stereo sound better than the default? And also, should one always have it enabled? I noticed when i had it enabled in a game that didn't have support, it worked but it added a background noise if i recall correctly. RE: Dolby Pro Logic II with Stereo? - TKSilver - 04-13-2019 Dolby Pro Logic 2's entire point is to take a stereo input (game audio) and split it in to 5 channels. Down mixing back to 2 channels is pointless since you are going 2 > 5 > 2 for no reason. RE: Dolby Pro Logic II with Stereo? - Zerowalker - 04-13-2019 Yeah but if it has encoded 5 channels in 2 channels, wouldn't that mean it got more information (though perhaps in a bit of a lossy way). Cause downmixing would then allow that information to be there in stereo as well. But this is only if the original stereo in the games is different, and it's not simply taking those 5 channels to stereo to begin with. Thing is, i don't always trust games and their audio settings, i have seen so many weird mistakes which doesn't make sense. Cause i understand that it sounds illogical with the 2->5->2, but if the game has 2 different modes, one with 5 channels, one with 2 channels, and it's simply truncating, then 2->5->2 would "solve" that, not in an ideal way though. RE: Dolby Pro Logic II with Stereo? - TKSilver - 04-13-2019 The 5 channels pro logic 2 makes are fake. The game only has a stereo signal, the pro logic reciever (or audio setting in this case) uses extra instructions when you select the surround option in game to fake surround sound. There are only 2 channels to begin with so nothing is there to gain (or I guess lose) going back to the 2 channels, besides whatever algorithm dolby uses to fake the surround sound audio. The 5 channel option are only those instructions and not new audio channels. You would be correct (well kind of) if Gamecube used dolby digital 5.1 or one of the other versions that has 5 real seperate channels to begin with, but I don't know of any GC games with that. RE: Dolby Pro Logic II with Stereo? - Helios - 04-13-2019 It would honestly sound worse. |
