Would Dolphin look better than original resolution at 1080p on CRT? - thisbirch221 - 08-21-2018

Hi so I actually just found a 19 inch Sony trinitron TV and was really excited about that but since I recently had my first child I decided to clean up my game room and back up all my games and put them away. So everything I own is on a 2tb sshd I found at a flea market brand new lol. But yeah the TV is 480i and I was wondering if using maybe SSAA or MSAA would show some improvements or even running at 1080p? I was thinking 1x native and 8xssaa. But what do you think? I don't mind native resolution at all since I play gamecube games with component cables on wii with a CRT. But I did buy an adapter so I can store everything easily and its really good. Nice quality and the colors look really good too. It wasn't expensive so it's a win win!

SSAA isn't as useful on an analog display as it would be on a digital one. Sure it will remove jagged edges, but the output is blurry since the phosphors aren't pixels and don't care where the electron beam falls, so the antialiasing improvements are less obvious.

With a CRT, the thing that matters most is how you connect your PC to the display. For example, a Wii connected over component is better than Dolphin with AA connected over composite, imo! You'll just have a clearer picture all around thanks to component.

I have my pc connecting to my CRT using Component. Still i have a feeling it would be clearer.

Well, a little bit? I mean, a more detailed source is always nice! And if you have the GPU resources, go for it! But how much of that detail increase you'll be able to see... Well, try it!

I got a 1080 and one day in the future a rtx 2080ti lmfao. Honestly i really enjoy playing NES,SNES,NEO-GEO,and Genesis games on a CRT. i don't like scanlines on modern TV and they're overly sharp on moodern tv's but it depends on the game. And yeah i will let you know how everything goes. I ordered some high quality component cables and they will be here hopefully tomorrow.
