caan i OC my CPU? - aggression425 - 11-28-2009 hey guys well i have a intel core i7 920 and its at 3.3 GHz and the temps range from 45 C to when gaming to aat a max of 75 c. I was wondering if i caan overclock it to a stable 3.6 GHZ with my CoolerMaster V8 Please let me know guys ![]() i dont want to lag in hyrule field
RE: caan i OC my CPU? - NaturalViolence - 11-28-2009 ....where to start on this. What cooler are you using now? Are you currently using the coolermaster V8 or are you upgrading to it? With a very good air cooler you should be able to hit 3.75 GHz no problem, although it varies from cpu to cpu. You don't want your max temp to higher then 65 C. I can't be completely sure on this since I don't have an I7 920 myself but I believe the stock core voltage will bring you to 3.33 GHz and anything higher than that will require bumping up the core voltage. Do some research on google and you should be able to find the right voltage to use at that clock rate (although that also varies form cpu to cpu). RE: caan i OC my CPU? - aggression425 - 11-29-2009 intel core i7 920 run hot but safe to run at that temp. I was wondering someone that has a intel core i7 can maybe tell there temps and tell me whats there OC to? RE: caan i OC my CPU? - extreme64 - 11-29-2009 intel says there fine up to 100C so you should be fine RE: caan i OC my CPU? - NaturalViolence - 11-30-2009 Quote:intel says there fine up to 100C so you should be fine BS! Give me a link to that sir! I want to see your source. Sorry I got so angry. I am still having a hard time believing a cpu can even function at above 85 C let alone function well. I mean the melting point of most cpu's is around 130 C so 100 C is ridiculous. Of this is true then damn, what did intel put in that monster to get it to function at such high temps? RE: caan i OC my CPU? - extreme64 - 11-30-2009 I was googling around and found a couple articles like http://www.pugetsystems.com/blog/2009/02/26/intel-core-i7-temperatures/ this that say it and you gotta remember that it runs on 130 watts so alot of heat comes from there RE: caan i OC my CPU? - NaturalViolence - 12-01-2009 Hmmm, ok, they say it can go up to 100 C and still function but you SHOULD keep it under 80 C at full load. Kind of like how a core 2 will get all the way to 85 C before it fails but you should never have it running at above 65 C because that will reduce the lifespan. Thats still amazing. |
