Would i7s offer a significant increase over Core 2 Duos? - G2K - 11-25-2009

I'm in the market for a laptop (I know Dolphin isn't the best on laptops), I want to know whether or not I should shell out the extra money to get an i7 mobile or if it will barely be different than the C2D when it comes to Dolphin. This is basically the deciding factor of my laptop, which I need to buy ASAP, so the quicker the response, the better. Thanks!

I think if you want a significant increase, don't shell out tons of money on a laptop and get a nice desktop instead. They're far cheaper and more upgradable, not to mention cooling won't be a problem.

To answer your question, i7's are simply a smarter chip than C2D's. Are they faster? depends on what you're doing. The absense of FSB allows i7's to clock themselves faster when needed, on the fly; so theoretically if your cooling is sufficient, it should provide a pretty significant boost over a C2D.

i7's are clock for clock faster than a c2d but it would only be about a 5 fps increase

Geez, I know desktops are better but desktops aren't an option right now. I need something I can take with me, and my parents are restricting me from keeping a desktop in my room.

So these speed boosts they get... would they happen when using Dolphin? And about how much of a boost would there be, FPS wise?

i7 is 0-30% faster clock for clock.

You're right, but the absence of fsb is not why they clock faster under the right condition, aka turbo.

I'm using an i7 and the games run flawlessly so far.

I really need to try out other games on my i7 desktop just to be sure they work properly. It's really weird that Dolphin reads 16 cores when I have only four cores and without HT on.

depends on what point in the game the first couple of times i was in hyrule field it ran full speed but from a little bit after you have to guard the carriage to karakiro village it started lagging
