I hear you can use a couple of candles, but will this work for a PC Wiimote sensor bar?

Yes candles do work. And yes that will also work, basically anything that emits infra red for the wiimote to pick up.
But shop around, I got myself a battery powered sensor bar for only £10. And the batteries last ages in it as its only powering a few IR Leds.
