Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-14-2017 Hey guys. I have an old Wii remote lying around with my original system. I don't know exactly what the model numbers are, but this is the one that came with the console back in 2006 if that means anything to you. Looking to get one of those fancy Mayflash bars to use. I thought that Skyward Sword might be worth experimenting with, so I'm looking to throw a Wii Motion Plus in the order. The Recommended Accessories page recommends a third party GatorCrunch model, which is around $15. It also appears to be out of date, however, as a listing for a standard Wii Remote is a dead link. https://www.amazon.com/Wii-MotionPlus-Motion-Plus-Adapter/dp/B004V13D0I/ I found this alternative, some generic no-name Motion Plus. Anybody here ever use it? I can't seem to find any reference to it elsewhere on the forums, including the stickied thread. I don't think Skyward Sword on PC is worth $15, but for $5 I'd give it a go. Thank you for your help. PS: Will that really old Wiimote pose any problems for a Mayflash bar? RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - leolam - 01-14-2017 The DolphinBar works with all official Wiimotes (in most cases on Windows; some people have issues and it's unclear why). Anyway, it's pretty simple: if that Motion Plus unit works with a Wii, it will work with Dolphin. There may be some issues with Motion Plus detection if you're not using Bluetooth passthrough, though. RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-14-2017 Alright, thanks a lot man. One final question though. This isn't very important for my purchasing decision but I'm just curious; Can the Mayflash bar be used as a generic Bluetooth device as well? (For instance, with use with a DS3 or 4, or other such devices.) RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - leolam - 01-14-2017 No, the DolphinBar is designed to hide anything related to Bluetooth and only exposes the Wiimote as HIDs. RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-15-2017 Oh well, worth a shot. Thanks for your help. RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - Craftyawesome - 01-15-2017 Keep in mind that dolphinbar can't use passthrough. I had problems with motionplus extension without passthrough. RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-15-2017 What kind of issues can I expect? Are we talking totally unplayable here, or can it be worked around? RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - leolam - 01-15-2017 It ranges from being totally playable (and only having audio issues and having to plug/unplug the Motion+ for it to be detected) to being totally unplayable (Wiimote not detected or unusable by the game). Personally, I've never had the latter happen for me on Linux, and it seems to be a Windows specific issue that only affects some people. But the Wiimote audio and M+ detection issues are present on all platforms. Passthrough mode has none of these issues (assuming you have a decent adapter), though you do lose savestates. (Well, they'll be supported soon, but with an important limitation.) RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-15-2017 Hmm, I think I'll take a chance and go for the DolphinBar then. Worst case scenario, I'll dualboot Xubuntu or something and play the two games that's worth playing with a Wii MotionPlus there. Shame I'd lose out on the fancy DirectX features though. (Maybe some day over the rainbow Vulkan will catch up though!) RE: Genuine Wii Remote with Fake Motion Plus? - SGTNAPALM - 01-15-2017 It occurred to me that I'm being kinda ridiculous and I'm better off just getting an actual Bluetooth adapter and a cheap sensor bar, and it works out to be about the same price, maybe $3 more expensive. Anyone reading this in the future, just consider doing this instead. |
