ishiiruka dolphin vs official - nursejoy - 11-14-2016
Been thinking about switching to Ishiiruka Dolphin for a while now due to extra features like SSAO support. Wanted to know what are the differences between Ishiiruka and official besides those small features.

Stick to the official Dolphin build, since it is official. Ishiiruka certainly has a lot of nice additional features, but also a few serious flaws. Ishiiruka is more build in a hacky way while the official builds stick to the "do-it-correct-that-works-universally-for-each-game" way. Ishiiruka for example does not work well with Steam Streaming, is more often prone to crash, can demand tremendously more of your system than the official builds do, translation is not complete and a few more to note.
Ishiiruka is a project maintained by one person, based of the source code of Dolphin. Not only is the rate of updates slower you maintaining it by only one persons is sure to have some oversights in the changes some times. Note that I am not diminishing the value of Ishiiruka, but it is different than the official builds. So you should be aware of what Ishiiruka does differently and what benefits you might have. Keep in mind that Ishiiruka has a lot more issues than the official builds due certain features. Even filters such as SSAO might cause an issue. These changes are not available within Dolphin as Dolphin rather has the "do-it-correct-that-works-universally-for-each-game" setup.
Long story short, the official builds will provide you with the best optimization in terms of stability, accuracy and speed. While Ishiiruka provides additional quality enhancements as the cost of stability, accuracy and speed. Keep in mind that Ishiiruka discussion should be held within the Ishiiruka thread. It is the official build we want to recommend to every user out here. The official builds are simply the best for newer users (and older users alike). Only advanced users should try Ishiiruka, which are aware of it's limitations.
