Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - Intruso - 11-04-2016 My GPU is a nvidia 820m (also I have an Intel hd4600). Nvidia's official info says my GPU supports Dx12, but I'm afraid its support level is more like an "almost Dx12" and lacks of necessary features of the real dx12. I'm not sure, but if it supported Dx12 the DDI Direct3D string of Dxdiag would say "12" instead of 11.4 (like my other Intel GPU, which can actually run dx12). ![]() PS: In some webs I read it also supports Vulkan, but it's not true.
RE: Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - admin89 - 11-04-2016 Your GPU is a GT 540M rebrand , a Fermi GPU . So it doesn't support Dx12 and Vulkan http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-820M.108477.0.html Intel HD 4600 does support DX12 and Vulkan however you won't notice any performance gain due to the lack of feature level The bare minimum requirement for DX12 and Vulkan is Kepler . Nvidia architecture : Tesla < Fermi < Kepler < Maxwell < Pascal RE: Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - Intruso - 11-04-2016 Just what I was fearing. Thanks for your answer. RE: Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - Helios - 11-04-2016 At the very least, Vulkan would be a little faster due to a better code design in the backend. RE: Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - admin89 - 11-05-2016 I think I should fix my statement . It seems that Intel HD 4600 does not work with Vulkan , there is no Intel GPU option when I select Vulkan Edit : I found this https://communities.intel.com/thread/104113 Only Skylake GPU (Intel HD 530) or newer Intel GPUs work with Vulkan RE: Is my laptop GPU (really) Dx12 compatible? - leolam - 11-05-2016 Do note that is purely a limitation on Windows, i.e. Mesa supports Vulkan on, I think, SB+? (though it'll work better with gen8) |
