Yeah I heard about that. Interestingly, it seems there's been a spike in broken switches after the update.

I know I'm reacting to the Nintendo Direct super late, but as I was without any connection for a while, I watched it only yesterday evening...
Global reaction :

This one was one of the most awesome Direct yet I think, even if I didn't care for some news. Well to be more precise :
  • WarioWare Gold : It felt like I haven't saw an interesting WarioWare of ages, even if I wasn't super fan of that game. Might get it...
  • Detective Pikachu : I absolutely don't care about this one, but oh my god that made me laughed so hard. Didn't thought they would ever do that with a Pokemon game, especially with Pikachu... X)
  • Luigi's Mansion : Good idea, but I was shocked as well by the poor graphics. It seems even worse that Luigi's Mansion 2, thought thay would have really improved it and I still like the original one. I might have bought it if I never played it before, but that's not the case for me...
  • Okami HD : Many friends recommended it to me, this HD version seems to be the right moment to try it. Good idea as well...
  • Octopath Traveler : Expected it, nothing much new about it, but a close release date. That's a good point as it seems very interesting (and the OST is so parfait)...
  • Dark Souls Remastered : Like Okami, was interested about it, and it seems really nicely done on Switch. It's really nice to see more and more titles coming for the first time on Nintendo consoles. I really feared for Nintendo during the Wii U era...
  • Mario Tennis Aces : The first time it was announced, I was incredibly indifferent about it. Now the mechanics they've done have started to interest me. So why not...
  • Captain Toad : It's very good news for those who never played it for sure. But for those, as I, who already played i on Wii U, I'm really hesitant as I know there will be more stages as on the Wii U version... Grmbl, my wallet will start to hurt at this point... ^^'
As for the Nintendo 3DS version... meh, I don't get the point on that one if it's already on Switch...
  • Undertale : ... Well, I predicted last year for joking... I really didn't expect it to become true. Too bad I really played it on PC before, otherwise I would have got it on Switch for sure ! That also very good news for Nintendo, even if it's a little bit late... Unless there's something more hidden in this version?
  • Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy : Last year, I would NEVER thought Crash Bandicoot could come back on Nintendo consoles and was sure it would be exclusive to Playstation 4... That's a very good surprise and again... less money left for me... ^^'
  • Little Nightmares and South Park : Again, never thought they would be on a Nintendo console. Good surprise as well...
  • Hyrule Warriors: Definitive edition : I got it on Wii U, on 3DS... And I reaaaaaaaaly hestitate to have it on Switch as well... Gosh, this is an hard decision to make and it's for very soon...
  • Splatoon 2 : Waw, they are really impressive with Splatoon. That game came out from nowhere, and now it's a huge phenomenon. Also this new solo mode seems really well done... Moneeeeey, come baaaaack!
  • Super Smash Bros : I almost knew they would announce it, and I also felt before this was a little bit soon... But I'm still excited for it. And no, this doesn't seems to be a port, good news.
But I ask for ONE thing : please add an adventure mode like in Super Smash Bros Brawl, that's all I need!

And for the rest, seems nice, but I don't care. But very good Direct...
That was the reaction from the man that was 1 month and a half late on Internet... X)

i feel the same way but i have more fear for the project then hope because of the announcement it would drop this year. something doesn't feel right. usually they hype smash games, announce it way ahead of time. this feels... rushed

It was also my first impression, but Smash 4 realeased ~1.2 years after its announcement. If the release date is Christmas it would be 9 months, it's not that small. Since 2014 they got plenty of time working on it. Plus, instead of all Smash releases, the technical and content gap is not huge this time, Smash 4 is already a solid base for an HD Smash game. I just want a better Solo.

It got me off-guard since I was expecting a Smash announcement at E3.

E3 ain't what it used to be. It's a far cry from what it was in the 90s or early 2000s. It just doesn't have the same relevancy anymore. I'd argue that one of the larger purposes behind Nintendo Direct announcements was for the company to set their own timetable for releasing info and generating anticipation. E3 only comes once a year, and depending on when a game is going to be released, it may not be ideal for game developers to drop announcements of new games.

RE: Nintendo Switch - StarTrekVoyager - 04-11-2018

So, what do you guys think about the possibility of official Gamecube or Wii emulation on the Switch? (As for Dolphin as homebrew, seeing that you need an overclocked Shield TV to reach playable speeds and seeing that when undocked, the Switch's X1 is clocked at ~300 MHz, i.e. 5 times lower than the an OC'ed Shield TV one, I've already abandoned any hope of that) There is that """"emulator"""" of Wii games present on the Chinese Shield TV that runs Galaxy and a few other games at 1080p native, but what do we actually know about that one? Is it only the games being natively ported (most likely), a "game emulator" that has specific code to em/simulate each game individually (kinda possible) , or is it actual Wii emulation (I would be honsestly impressed). My point is, would Nintendo release "ported games" as VC, or do they really have an actual simulator/emulator ready to work at full speed on the X1 thanks to their own voodoo programming? Or is there just no hope?

RE: Nintendo Switch - KHg8m3r - 04-12-2018

They have access to source code and all the low-level stuff in both the GC/Wii and Switch, so who knows yet. Seeing as how they already have GC/Wii games running on what is essentially Switch hardware, my prediction is that we'll be seeing something at E3 about it.

Also, the fact that Kirby Star Allies runs at 30 fps in the game stages and then tantalizes you with 60 fps at the goal game jump thing at the end of the level makes me wish they had a switch to enable 60 fps all the time, at the cost of DSR going lower
