Not enouth games.

I did that for the Wii U. Saw there wasn't enough games that interested me. I never bought one Confused

Personally, they'd be risking a lot by not launching with one of their heavy IPs. They Wii U didn't have anything major that was exciting to many. NSMB U felt like a rehash, and Nintendo Land was, well... With console launches, you need to come out hard, just like they used to. Getting Mario and Zelda all at once shows to me that they are at least trying, whereas the Wii U was them just burning money and leftover goodwill from the Wii. I'll wait until people actually professionally review BotW before making my own judgements though. I mean, I haven't really played a Zelda game that I disliked, so I'll probably enjoy it regardless of what kind of ratings it gets.

I want to thank them for this. To me, it tacitly admits that they goofed with the Wii U, and this is a small way of saying "my bad" (although, it's kinda like flipping off existing Wii U owners). I don't want to have to sink a couple hundred dollars on a used Wii U to play MK8 or Splatoon, and then turn around an sink another $500 buying all my switch stuff this year. So thanks, Nintendo. They dropped the ball, but at least they aren't making me pick it up Tongue

That's one more retail unit for me then Big Grin

Hehe~

Don't worry, I gonna buy one for Smash 5. Big Grin
Then I'll complain that gameplay will not be as good as Melee and buy other Switch games because I'm a Nintendo fan anyway.

But I don't know, of course I wasn't expecting the Switch having a concept that will sell as well as other consoles, but they should at least take good care of their fanbase, that's the first step to recover. I know F-Zero, Fire Emblem (not muso) and Metroid don't sell as well as Mario, and are not system sellers, but I think that's an error to neglect them only based on that fact.
There're IPs that are part of the Nintendo history, identity and known to be great games, so if they release new games for these series, the fanbase will live on, maybe grew thanks to communication and word of mouth, and maintain a good image for them. But instead, they don't do that and people like me are likely to be bored and abandon ship one day or another.

I feel the same way. I miss the Gamecube days... Sad

RE: Nintendo Switch - Kurausukun - 01-15-2017

I have to say, one thing that really does make me excited for the new Zelda is that it seems that there's finally real voice acting. It's about damn time--I only could have looked the other way when during some intense cutscene a character made some incomprehensible noise and text just magically appeared on the screen for so long.

Me too. Even though the GC took a beating, financially speaking, Nintendo threw a lot of IP behind it. It's no wonder that you look at the game collecting market for GC games, and prices have exploded. Just the disc alone for Melee will cost you $50. FE: Path of Radiance will set you back $85 for the disc. Nintendo's GC games are some of the most collectible and expensive these days, so I think that's a testament to Nintendo's early 2000s, even if spreadsheets showed them "losing" the console wars.

RE: Nintendo Switch - Kurausukun - 01-15-2017

The GC is, to date, my favorite Nintendo console, at the very least in terms of games. Probably part of it is because I grew up with it, but for the life of me I can't think of another system that had games with the level of depth and replayability that GC games gave me.

Same.

RE: Nintendo Switch - Invader - 01-16-2017

For anyone skeptical of the system, I have a few things to say...

1) Do you ever wonder the reason Nintendo decided on a March launch in the first place? It's to ensure there will be a decent selection of games by the holiday season. Splatoon 2, Mario Kart, Zelda, Super Mario Odyssey, and plenty of third party support will be there. Nintendo stated 80 games are in development for Switch. To put that into perspective, the Wii U only has 122 retail (boxed) games right now...

2) I've stated this already, but I want to say it again. The Switch doesn't need to be that powerful. Why? Because it has the portability aspect. The question when deciding between multiplatform games changes from "Which version is the best?" to "Which version would be the most convenient for me, and do I want portability?". Also, I can pretty much guarantee that the Switch will be way easier to develop for then the Wii U considering it's actually using "familiar" hardware. More importantly it has official support for Unreal Engine and Unity.

3) Anyone worried about the battery life should keep this in mind. The system charges via USB type C, so portable chargers already exist for the system and most likely could be shared with your smartphone. On top of that it's only a matter of time before a "case charger" is made:
something like this: (Show Spoiler)
4) For anyone thinking the price tag is too high, wait for it to drop. It always does. To put this in perspective the Switch is the 4th cheapest system at launch after adjusting for inflation.

Right now it looks like I'll have more games for this thing by the end of the year than I do on my Xbone. I'm not entirely sure if that says much though... Tongue

Did I miss anything?  Huh

tl;dr Plenty of games, easier development is more important than power, options for battery life, wait for the price to drop.

EDIT: Added 4th statement to the list.

RE: Nintendo Switch - mbc07 - 01-16-2017

Starting from the Shield TV price of $200 (and that's already with NVIDIA's profit margin) and the Eurogamer rumor that the console is pretty similar with the Shield TV, that $300 price tag for the Switch makes me wonder if they're not hiding something for later? Maybe the Switch indeed uses Pascal architecture like some previous rumors and thus is a bit pricier?

RE: Nintendo Switch - DrHouse64 - 01-16-2017

I have no problem with power, price and battery.

80 Games is just a number Nintendo dropped, it's not really relevant. It can be fake, or mostly eshop, indie games, or companies that said they will considering it...
