Low FPS After Disk Format - DaveTheSodaGuy - 10-05-2016
Hey everyone. It's been nearly a week since I've been trying to get Dolphin to work at 60 FPS (just like it used to go right before I had to format my C: Disk due to malware)
And I'm not sure if it's the emulator or my system's fault because I have already tried every combination on the emulator and I have also already tried downloading every single update for my PC, so, I'll leave you guys with my PC Specs.
OS WIndows 7 64bits
CPU : Pentium Dual Core E700 @3.00 (2cpus) 3.00 GHz
4GB Ram
GPU: GEforce 9600 GSO 512
Exib Mode: 1280x 720 (32bit) 60hz
I know it is not that great a Pc but it used to play most games at 60 FPS and now they'll just keep oscilating between high and low really fast.
I should also note that most non-card demanding games work perfectly but a game like Sonic Generations (I have it on steam so please don't crucify me for piracy) goes way too choppier than it used to.

Did you use the same Dolphin version (5.0) , same configuration before formatting ?

I'm using dolphin 5,0 x64 bit and I copied the same configuration I was using before format although I do suspect I used to use the 32x version of windows 7

Latest Dolphin requires more GPU power , possibly more CPU power as well
The thing is latest Dolphin has 4 graphic backend : Direct3d11 (Directx10 and Directx11) , OpenGL , Vulcan , Direct3d12 (Directx12)
Your Geforce 9600 GSO is a Directx9 GPU which is pretty old (from 2008)
Older Dolphin may have an option for Directx9 user but latest Dolphin no longer support that
I have no idea how Dolphin would run on your computer as you showed Direct3d11 in your graphic settings . The only backend that could work for you is OpenGL

I would suggest doing the opposite: delete your configuration and start fresh. And don't change any settings. Is it still running slow?

how do I delete my configuration? by deleting the emulator? If so I have already done it, I have deleted and reinstalled the official build several times, I have attempted to install older builds before installing the 5.0 version and I still have lag on all games. And OpenGL doesn't cut it for me since it is actually slower than Direct3d11

Unless you're running Dolphin in portable mode, removing Dolphin does not remove your configuration.
Assuming you're using Windows, your config is stored in Documents\Dolphin Emulator (IIRC)

The only builds that still support D3D9 are Ishiruka´s, but these have their own thread and won´t receive support from any other developer if an issue ever happens.

If it doesn't run at full speed, I wouldn't recommend messing with D3D9, it's not really worth it. You'll have a much better experience by upgrading your hardware.

hey, this post is kinda dead, but I have to revive it. I have finally managed to get some improvements on the higher CPU and GPU demanding games
I have reinstalled the master build on C: Disk so I finally got it to stop the huge pauses which made some games unplayable.
Unfortunately I still can't play some games on their full potential like before my PC's Format. I get around 5 to 10 fps drops on the more demanding games (which was not happening at all before.)
Surprisingly enough some gamecube games work great. or at least on a a playable til the end matter.
