Using GTX 960 and having framedrops at 720 - pikamalo - 03-14-2016

Hi,

I just got a GTX 960 for mi PC and having watched lots of those "4k Gamecube games with 16x and solid 60FPS with GTX 960" videos (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4TscYxHg14) I though I could get all thwse GC games at least at 720p with solid 60FPS.

Well, I tried using all the graphical options available, checking and unchecking all the boxes and still can't get 60 frames in games like metroid prime, F Zero GX and Godzilla Sad

A lot of those videos show them graphical options and they have a "Direct 3D"(without any number) while I don't have that option by itself, just Direct3D9, Direct3D11,OpenGL,etc (and of course, I tried all of them)

You can check my specs on my profile and maybe my CPU is not the best but is no even working at 40% :p

What's happening? Sad

Use the latest dev version instead of 4.0.2. It's much faster and more accurate.

metroid prime, F Zero GX and Godzilla Sad are demanding games , more demanding than most wii tittles . In order to run these games at 60 FPS , you need a powerful CPU . i3 2100 @ 3.1GHz barely meets the requirement for most games , not for demanding games....
So use the latest dev Dolphin . 4.0.2 is 2 years old , we no longer support it
Btw , Direct3d12 is much faster than Direct3d11 , you should give a try . if you want to use Direct3d12 , you must download the latest Dolphin and have Windows 10 x64 installed

We still support 4.0.2 because 5.0 is not released yet. We just basically tell everybody to use the latest development release when they come to us saying things are slow. Once 5.0 is released we'll be telling everybody to upgrade, regardless of the issue they're having.

Thanks for the replies.

I tried to install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 but somehow is failing (?).

I use Win8 but it's not a registered version so that might be the problem.

Ok, I bought a W10 copy and now with D13 everything runs smooth.

Thanks a lot.

Now if I can get this working in Steam link and a controller...

A note on F-Zero GX:
If you enable vsync, the game will crash. In order to avoid the crashes and still get vsync, you can disable vsync in the emulator options, run it in borderless fullscreen mode and let Windows desktop composition keep the video signal synchronized to the monitor's refresh rate. This also results in a significantly lower performance penalty than the built-in vsync. Some say this introduces input lag but I've never noticed any on any of the games I play with dolphin, even F-Zero GX, which requires sharp reflexes. If you want to tax your system, unlock Sand Ocean - Lateral Shift. The heat refraction effect puts a big strain on the CPU and is a good test for your system and settings.

Additionally, when enabling dual core for this game, it sometimes resets back to the opening screen but tends to happen only once per session and usually right after the intro video, so it doesn't really bother me.
