"Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - ImStillBadWithDolphin - 12-31-2015 Hi there. I've suddenly started having problems with the "Dump Frames" feature with Dolphin (I believe it was 4.0-8443, but I began using 4.0-7508 for the sake of less input delay). But before I state the problem, I should mention that this feature used to work, and I was still using the same version of Dolphin at that time. I was dumping frames on a TAS I made, but when they were dumped and saved, every frame looked corrupted. Here's an example of one of those frames: ![]() This frame is supposed to be the character select screen in SSBM. So anyway, as I mentioned before, "Dump Frames" used to work for me, and I was using it for the same purpose as this time: to record TAS. Last time I used it and was working just fine was just about 3 days ago. I am also aware that dumped frames become broken if the game's window size is changed. I remember I did it once by accident before it stopped functioning properly (which was about 2 days ago, a day after the last time it worked properly), but I immediately stopped the emulation when that happened. The next time I tried to dump frames, despite never even re-sizing the game window since that accident, caused the whole video becomes corrupted as seen in the image I posted. So what happened? How did Dolphin glitch up? EDIT: Apparently when I re-enabled "Use Panic Handlers" and tried to do this again after relaunching Dolphiin, it mistakenly believes that the game window was re-sized after the very first frame. I managed to work around that by simply dumping the frames after the first few have went by. Still though, why is Dolphin doing this to me? RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - pauldacheez - 01-04-2016 IIRC, this is related to the aspect ratio changes in 4.0-7133 and/or 4.0-7138: https://dolphin-emu.org/blog/2015/08/01/dolphin-progress-report-july-2015/#40-7133-automatically-detect-gamecube-aspect-ratios-by-phire Try setting Graphics > General > Aspect Ratio to "Force 4:3". RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - JMC47 - 01-04-2016 pauldachz is correct. Ran into this and can confirm; Melee changes the aspect ratio at various points so you need to force it to 4:3. RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - Kurausukun - 01-04-2016 Could I not also force it to 16:9? Also, is this something that will be fixed eventually, or do we just have to deal with it? RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - kamijoan - 01-04-2016 For me, it happens with "Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles" RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - JMC47 - 01-04-2016 You can force 16:9 or 4:3; it's just when a game changes aspect ratios it breaks Dolphin. It's the reason why it shouldn't have that bug, it probably needs work to get that fix. RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - Kurausukun - 01-05-2016 I tried forcing 4:3 and 16:9, but my frame dumps still come out as a garbled mess. Is there nothing I can do? Do I just have to deal with my frame dumps looking like garbage until this is fixed? RE: "Dump Frames" suddenly stops working properly - kamijoan - 01-06-2016 Start dumping after a few frames, that's all we can do for now, I guess... |
