Read/Write Saves Over Network? - sulblazer - 12-16-2015

So I run Dolphin on multiple machines.  How do I set all the Dolphins to read and write saves onto my file server PC on my network?  That way, I won't have to export/import saves each time I want to play from another PC in the house?

You can create symlinks of the save folder, or just also start dolphin over network with a "portable.txt".

I recommend the portable.txt approach over the network. That way savestates will work as you will be using the same revision (somebody correct me if I'm wrong there. I don't think differing PCs will affect that?)

Correct me if I misunderstood anything here. So the best approach to this would be to execute Dolphin from a single source over network with a "portable.text" file that will specify the use of local settings of the server rather than the settings of the client? Any complications I should be aware of? Will there be any impact on performance (prolly shouldn't be any)?

Yes, but the file that you create in the Dolphin executable folder needs to be named "portable.txt", not "portable.text".

Accessing the configuration might get slower. This matters for using custom texture packs without preloading, but other than that, I think the only thing that's affected is scanning the game list.
