Plus, even if they don't use copyrighted assets, they're gonna obviously be take down so hard by Nintendo for using the Zelda licence and copying TP.

But hey, some surprising good things come up nowadays, like the Tomb Rider II fan remake.

Absolutely true, although I'm still hoping to see something cool get done with it. I think they can get around the copyright thing if they make it different enough (completely different names, models etc. Maybe even change the story and game play and make a different game entirely), but as you said there's a lot of work to be done and it's very unlikely that they will ever finish it. But even if they don't finish it (or even get close to finishing it) they can always release it to the public as an open source kind of thing and that would be pretty cool.

There are a lot of people working in / interested in working in Unreal Engine so just throwing the project out there, assets and everything, would probably spark and fuel the start of many other projects which could be built on the TP project's base concepts. Maybe some could even collaborate and make something really nice with it that even ARTAKE Games could've never achieved themselves?

I don't know really just some thoughts. Hopefully everything goes just fine and they make a great game with this, or something else entirely.

Is it still possible to get the texture pack somewhere? The latest download link I found was in their old Twitter feed, but the file has been removed.

I do have it, although my internet connection is very slow and it would take quite a while for me to upload it. I may share a link later but until then you'll have to keep searching!

After doing some more digging, I found version 1.0.1. Unfortunately, this wasn't their latest update before they switched to making an all-original game (really looking forward to that BTW). I was especially excited about the SS shader preset, which came after 1.0.1, I believe, but c'est la vie. However, reading between the lines, I gather anything released after that was only released to contributors, so 1.0.1 may be the latest free release anyway.

In any case, I've downloaded their mobile game, so here's hoping that helps them out.

I'm not sure if it's the latest but I've got build 1.0.2 saved on my machine. If no one else is sharing this online, then we ought to, right?

1. Is there a way to do this on the dolphin forums?
2. Is it allowed by site rules?

Kind of a noob when it comes to posting in the forums...

If the author hasn't said that they're fine with people redistributing it, that would be piracy, which is not allowed by the forum rules.

RE: The Twilight Princess HD Project - Bighead - 09-13-2017

It's a shame that this has become the reality, as it will only be a matter of time before authors stop caring about their projects and/or disappear from the internet and links start to die. I don't agree with it, and I fully blame those who created this paranoia and set the precedence within this community (a certain windwaker and sunshine pack come to mind). I can understand using the work of someone else in their own projects and claiming it their own, but is it really illegal to redistribute something completely unmodified? If so, it's amazing the internet survived this long and websites like download.com still exist. I don't see how it's considered "piracy" when you're basically just mirroring what the author themselves has already uploaded, free of charge, in its original state. How does imgur stay alive with so much piracy?

In this specific case I really don't care, there are already enough twilight princess packs in circulation to last our lifetime. But this paranoia to copyright law is the reason why so much of our human history is doomed to be eradicated with the passage of time. That's another argument in itself, and I may be ignorant when it comes to copyright. But I have yet to read a case where someone was sued over redistributing a texture pack. I imagine most people put forth the effort to create these things without putting a price tag on them is so that they actually get out there into the hands of people who want them, yet there seems to be an active effort to prohibit just that. If texture pack authors have a problem with their work being redistributed, it should be up to them to take legal action against the perpetrator.

I looked in the pack I have to see if they included a license that spells out the terms under which it could be redistributed. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one.

RE: The Twilight Princess HD Project - frozenwings - 09-14-2017

In my opinion, if the original texture pack is released for free then there shouldn't be a problem with another person carrying it on as long as the original artist/artists are credited.

This is why I make sure every texture pack I work with is clearly labeled as being okay for redistribution, as long as everyone involved is credited somewhere. Copyright of HD retextures is a pretty murky area, especially packs involving multiple contributors - and most people tend to err on the side of caution rather than get slammed with some bull crap lawsuit. If Dolphin devs/mods are telling you not to repost texture packs, then that's their right at the operators of this forum and it's probably best just to let this die.

I do agree with Bighead, though. It's a shame that stuff people put so much time and effort into (for free) is lost to the internet forever due to some copyright muckiness.
