Can I move the Dolphin Emulator folder? - aregowe - 10-06-2015
Can I move Dolphin Emulator folder?
I currently have the C:\Users\username\Documents\Dolphin Emulator folder on my C drive. I have a SSD that I'd like to move this to, because I have a lot of Custom Textures.
How do I do this without messing something up? I just want to be able to load Custom Textures from my Games SSD instead of my OS SSD.
However, I'm not sure if moving this folder will cause any issues or not.

1. Copy the "Dolphin Emulator" folder to your Dolphin folder with Dolphin.exe
2. rename "Dolphin Emulator" user folder to "User"
3. create a file in the Dolphin folder with Dolphin.exe called "portable.txt"
done.

Short: Regestry HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Dolphin Emulator\ the String value "UserConfigPath" controls the global user folder. It defaults to the Documents/Dolphin Emulator.

To be clear, that registry key does not exist by default - you have to create it. Dolphin does not create any registry keys.

I'd recommend the portable.txt approach over that.
Registry hacks are much more error prone.

What about special shortcut?
It's more cleaner IMO and that shortcut can be placed anywhere.

Once I do that method, do I need to type anything in the portable.txt docutment? Also, can I delete the content inside the "User" folder?
