Force 60fps games to run at proper 30fps? - djayjp - 08-21-2015

The title says it all-- is it possible to set Dolphin to run games which normally run at 60fps to run at 30fps (at 100% speed)? Examples include Super Smash Bros and Metroid Prime. I'm terribly sorry if this has been asked before. Thanks in advance!

I don't primarily work on graphics backends so I can't say. However, I'm curious as to why you would want this.

Do you have problems with motion sickness at high framerates? Why do you need this?

I assume he thinks it will be twice as easy to run.

^ this. Smash Bros, for example, has an fps average low of about 30fps (half speed) on Nvidia Shield TV, whereas Metroid Prime also has no problems generally keeping above 30fps. So if we could implement a kind of reverse 30 -> 60 hack (to make that run normal speed), then I think it should be possible in reverse as well. This would help tremendously to run all games that require 60fps.

Also it seems frame skipping is non functional in android dolphin (tried changing the hex value in the .ini but no luck) which could also hugely help.

Same thing with disabling vsync if the gpu is unable to update faster than 30fps-- should be relatively easy to implement for that device I would think since it's a feature that's already in Nvidia's drivers.

There's cheats for Melee to run it at numerous different framerates. It doesn't work well with the audio, though. http://smashboards.com/threads/melee-in-120-fps.354534/#post-16757077

As for Metroid Prime, no codes exist as far as I know. The few people who actually know enough and care enough about the game to write them are too busy playing randomized versions of Prime.

You can try playing with overclock settings, not sure if it still behaves the same on current builds, but previously some games would run at 30fps on certain overclock settings (I found this with Timesplitters 2, but it runs very well nearly full speed anyways).

Hmm very interesting (though too bad about sound). So, noob question: how do I go about entering cheats in android dolphin? :p

Idk I tried under and overclock settings but didn't seem to affect fps or game speed at all.
